To be generous is to welcome the joy of giving without expectations.
Being generous means opening ourselves up to something greater than ourselves.

What we have to give to others is much more than what we “think” about.
When we try to rationalize generosity, we forget the many ways it can impact our lives.

What do we have to give

Of the many things we have and can give to others, things like money, material goods, or food are the ones that immediately come to mind.

However, if we look carefully among our riches, we will find much more that we can give. We have many valuable things to give that aren’t “physical”, such as
- smiles
- an open and curious gaze
- attention
- time
- empathy
- space
- hugs
- ideas that we can distribute
- the gifts that we can share.

We end up receiving

If generosity means giving without expectation, it is equally true that we will always receive something too.
