I recently moved far from where I lived by myself and I’m settling into a kind of lone journey. Feeling alone is not new or foreign to me. I’ve felt alone walking through a big city and I’ve often felt alone when I’m with the wrong people.

I do have a lot of friends and a lot of connections but it’s rare that people trade me something better in exchange for my solitude. Even when I’m with people I often feel the need to retreat. A lot of times our interaction is vain, superficial, or just not meeting me on the level that I need to be met.

If I can be so bold, I think this is a reality for a lot of people out there. I think we are going to be alone a lot in life and, personally, I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

It would be nice to have a tribe, to have a life in great proximity to individuals who inspire us, who light us up and meet us on all the different levels we need to be met on.

But that’s a dream.

We don’t always have tribes around us. We don’t always have a community around us. The communities that do exist tend to be fragile, fickle, and centered around vain things.
