I Just Found Out I’m Not Resilient

Part of embracing ikigai is stretching your web

“These towns were fragile spaces that had been forgotten by the government and could not recover on their own.” (Ikigai: The Japanese Secret To a Long and Happy Life, Garcia, 2016).

Hector Garcia mentioned these Japanese towns that were devastated by the Tsunami in 2011. Some were able to be antifragile, while others suffered and could not be rebuilt.

Why is this?

The book gives another example to explain this concept.

If you only have one salary, and that company goes belly up, or you somehow get laid off/fired, if you did not have a part-time second job, or a hobby you were earning from , congratulations, you just made yourself fragile —

Or less resilient.

Embrace redundancies, avoid extremes

Those who understand that their purpose in life is their center, and any web that extends from that center can help to anchor and balance their lives, will thrive. This is called creating redundancies.

I’ve done posts on the importance of capitalizing on our talents and hobbies, but I’ve also spoken about not burning ourselves out, turning every passion into profit.
