We all have quirks that we indulge in behind closed doors. Some people lie on the floor to relax, others (like me!) talk to out loud to themselves.

This habit can be very embarrassing — especially if I get caught in the act. However, I went on social media and found hundreds of thousands of people just like me!

There are nearly 300,000 posts of people that talk to themselves on TikTok. There are videos of people opening up about how much they love to talk to themselves. They can be brainstorming ideas out loud or having all out conversations in their car. I’m not alone.

According to Therapist, Lauren Auer, LCPC, we would be surprised how many people admit to talking to themselves and worry that it’s abnormal, but it’s not. We may also be surprised how many people have internal (or external!) dialogues running throughout the day!

According to the experts, talking to ourselves is an excellent way to process our thoughts and work through our emotions. We can find comfort when we’re stressed and even more benefits to be had.

One TikTok creator has one-sided yap sessions- she’ll put on her headphones and talk to herself while walking. She had over 4,000 commenters validating her! I love…
