Menopause & Avocadoes
Now when I was younger I would never say that to anyone. I don’t like what menopause is doing to me.
I love avocadoes. They are not seasonal in the US, but they are in Jamaica. Simmons pear is my favorite. Not only is it huge but the meat inside is thick and delicious.
Yesterday as I left the market, I saw an elderly female with two of them among other foods she was selling. Looking at her, I can tell she is from the country. She has beautiful dark cool skin without wrinkles. She was old. Too old to be selling at the market. But it’s normal for Jamaica. I try and support the older people selling in the market. The Simmons avocadoes were $300.
Now, being a cheap skate, my brain reasoned with my common sense. Then my common sense reasoned with me to treat myself. Avocadoes were actually healthy for me, and I loved them. I love eating them with my spinach scrambled eggs in the morning. With my lunch and dinner too.
300 Jamaican dollars isn’t even US$2.00. The Hass pears I enjoyed in the US are good but are very small. It takes about 6–8 or more small Haas pears to make one Simmons pear.
I grabbed the biggest one, thanked her, and hurried to the taxi stand. I couldn’t wait to get home.
