LIFE ON THE INSIDE
Never a Dull Moment
Yesterday, we made a $7,000 deposit on Mr. Rugby’s upcoming 2 level disc replacement surgery. It was the largest down payment — outside of the condos — I’ve ever made. And yes, I had to use a credit card to do it.
Holy crap, right?
The doctor doing the surgery has an excellent reputation which is, of course, what you want when it’s your kid and it’s his back or, more accurately, his spine (!). But my God. I was astounded.
$40,000 total for the procedure which I guess means it’s $20K per disc.
Why didn’t I go to medical school?
Oh right. I can’t add, hate blood, and didn’t crack 1,000 on my SAT. Thus my well-paying work as a writer. Ha, ha.
Of course while I sat there, hearing the fee and making the check, I didn’t let on to Mr. Rugby that I was FREAKING OUT. He’d have canceled the whole thing then and there. And that’s just not an option. He’s always in pain, and some days it’s terrible. He can’t live his life that way.
With his back fixed he can live his life to the fullest! Pursue whatever career he desires! Launch a business! Make bucketloads of money!
And take care of Rob and me. Cause we’re probably gonna need it.
Until next time. . .
