As your market grows, it gets difficult to keep in touch with your customers and update them regularly about your company. Email Marketing helps you in doing so. Want to know how? Keep reading.

Getting Started with Email Marketing

Email Marketing, as the name specifies, is marketing your products and services through email. But it isn’t as simple as it sounds. You must be having a lot of questions about how to start, whom to mail and what to mail about. But firstly you should know why you are using Email marketing.

A personal touch added to Marketing

Marketing is all about building your brand, creating awareness about your business and converting leads to customers to fans and Email helps you a lot in the same.

If you want to communicate anything to your customers about your company, Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective ways to do so. It also has a high return-on-investment (ROI) and is a more personalized and direct way of interacting with the consumers of your brand.

It’s important to understand a buyer’s journey to target them and convert them into customers. The stages which a buyer goes through in Email Marketing (and probably in other marketing strategies as well) are:

1. Awareness (For e.g.: I know “xyz” is a brand that sells “abc” product and services)

2. Subscribe (I want to hear from them because I think they will provide me the “value” that I need)

3. Engage (I participated in the contest they had arranged last week, also they had provided me with a free coupon of 10% discount, they always ask me for a feedback)

4. Purchase (I need “abc”. I’ll buy it from “xyz” because I think they are reliable)

The buyer’s journey doesn’t end in the purchase stage. If you want your customers to keep coming back, you must keep providing them value. “Value” is the reason your customers stick to you and trust you. It builds a relationship between you and your customer and Email marketing eases the buyer’s journey for you through a variety of ways.

Tell me HOW is it done?

Email marketing is done using an “Email list”. It is the list of the people who have subscribed to your website and want to hear from you. This is “your audience”. So, it all starts with adding a sign-up form and encouraging people to fill up that form to get updates from you.

But does simply saying that “Sign up to get updates” is enough? Not at all. You must provide them with some “value”. What do we mean by value? It could be some free e-book, or a checklist, or a video, or anything that would compel them to fill up the form and hit that “Sign up” button.

Now, let’s say you have an Email list. What is the nest thing you would do? Obviously, start sending emails! But, what should you talk to your customers about? Should you directly start pitching them to buy your products and services? NO! NO! NO! That sounds like a spam email and no one would like that. Your emails might end up in the spam or trash folder.

You can interact with your customers by telling them about your product and services. A more effective way to talk to your customers is to share knowledge with them about the topics related to your business. It can either be something related to your business, or maybe something else like wishing them on an occasion, etc. Talking to your customers helps to build a bond and they feel like they are important to you. It builds trust.

There is one important thing that you must keep in mind: NEVER BUY AN E-MAIL LIST! People don’t like receiving emails from people they haven’t given permission to mail them. Your email could ultimately be blocked by the specialized software used these days to keep out spam emails.

There are certain measures to analyze your e-mail marketing campaign and knowing them will help you to improve your business to a great extent.
