ZBC#92 [Team in the new paradigm] Reinventing Organizations/ティール組織

Today, let me introduce Reinventing Organizations/ティール組織 from Zenport Book Club#92 on Mar3rd 2018.

Frederic Laloux, the author, describes a newly emergent organization model, he refers to as Teal paradigm.

He argues that the current organization based on achievement, cannot adjust to the current situation that are so complicated and changes so quickly. That’s why Teal paradigm has appeared.

Let us check the characteristic of Teal organization, and how we can build this kind of team.

Summary

  • In a history, human made evolved the organization model. These organizational models are separated as follows. Reactive — infrared paradigm. Magic — magenta paradigm. Impulsive — red paradigm. Conformist — amber paradigm. Achievement — orange paradigm, Pluralistic — green paradigm. Evolutionary — teal paradigm.
  • Currently, most of the companies are in Orange paradigm. This model works fine once, however it’s hard to adjust to the recent environment that changes so faster because of it’s hierarchy. Besides, Achievement organization does’t accept each one’s humanity.
  • In order to solve these problems of achievement organization,Teal organization has the following three properties.
    - Self management: Respond promptly to changes in the environment surrounding the organization, in cooperation with appropriate members, without relying on hierarchies and consensus.
    - Wholeness: To operate the organization with all the potential that each member possesses. Everyone can come to the company with “original self”, there are climates and practices that can have a sense of unity with colleagues, organizations and society.
    - Existential purpose: The purpose to be existed for the world. That is not decided by just leader, but made by all of the members.
  • In order to introduce Teal paradigm to the company, the leader must strongly agree with this idea, believe in all members ,then lead them into this paradigm.

Discussion

  • I’m very impressed the concept of Teal paradigm as a leader. I’d like to build team of teams, each member has enough information, then make decision by themselves. To establish this kind of team, the ideas of Teal should teach me a lot.
  • In the first place, we need to think about whether current capitalism fits times. Based on the philosophy, we need to think about the best organization model.

Today, I’ve introduced Reinventing Organizations, that explained about Teal organizations.
