Today, let me introduce The Huawei Story from Zenport Book Club#93 on Mar10th 2018.
Huawei, that is a representative company in China, but its realities are not well known.
They has a motto, that is Winter is Coming.
In order to survive the winter, Ren Zhengfei, the CEO of Huawei, advocates two philosophies. One is a moderate and the other is meditations
Why he thinks that the two of them are so important? Then how Huawei has been survived based on the philosophies?

Summary
- Huawei’s mission is customer-centric. Still now a lot of Chinese companies turn their backs to their customers and face their boss, but Huawei always look at customers, not their boss.
- Huawei’s Core Values are diligence, dedication, responsibility and sense of mission. They think the struggling members are cores for the company. Huawei also ask members to constantly increase productivity. Members who do not grow will be asked to leave the company.
- Huawei’s one philosophy is Gray(moderateness). This argues that the importance of compromise. Everything can not be divided into white and black. In order to survive and glow up, we sometimes need a compromise such as joining hands with rivals.
- Another is self-criticism. We need to constantly reflect on ourselves and hope for higher goals, otherwise we can not survive.
Discussion
- I strongly agree with the idea that moderateness is important. I call this idea option thinking. Since every situations have multiple axes, if you try to divide it into 0, 1 in one axis, we misunderstand the essence. Fro judgement and decision, we always need moderateness.
- I agree with the importance of self-criticism. In order to raise yourself and the organization, we need to ask myself every day. Tadashi Yanai, the CEO of UNIQLO, also says the same thing. It will be an essential ability to be a manager who will overwhelmingly achieve results.
