ZBC#97 [Fail Better] Antifragile/反脆弱性
Today, I’ll introduce Antifragile from Zenport Book Club#97 on Apr7th 2018.
In this book, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the author of Black Swan reveals the survival method in an uncertain world.
The keyword is antifragile.
What is that? then how we can get used to it?
Let’s get started.
Summary
- In order to survive in an uncertain world, many people try to predict the future in order to avoid the uncertainty. However, it’s too hard to predict the future. In that case, we need to accept the uncertainty and gain benefits from that. We call the things that get stronger by chaos, Antifragile.
- In this world, there are three type of things. Those are fragile, resilient and antifragile. The fragile one is suffered from shocks. The resilient one can stand chaos, but it just stay the same, cannot get better. On the other hand, antifragile gets better.
- In order to keep antifragile status as society, some parts need to accept fragile. You can imagine the economy. Because man entrepreneur fails, the society can grow up by antifragile.
- Sometimes, those who don’t face fragile cheats other people then get benefits from antifragile. This is totally unacceptable.
Discussion
- For product design, we use fail safe. When trouble happens, it responds in a way that will not cause minimum harms. It’s one of a good design feature, but later we should need to design by fail better based on antifragile.
- Mitsuru Murai, the President of Japanese football League, said that professional football player needs a mentality to grow up by uncertainty. It’s all antifragile. In order to survive and make success, we need to have mindset that enjoy uncertainty and get better by that.
