A lot of people believe the greatest artists have an amazing life because of their skills. Well, it isn’t always like that. Vincent Van Gogh for instance suffered from a major depressive disorder. His mental health suffered. Vincent at one point, cut his earlobe off (yes, it was not his entire ear, as many people were led to believe).

Over 800+ of his paintings consist of vibrant, catchy colors, which struck many art critics. It may seem ironic that a man suffering from the blues creates attention-grabbing pieces that sell for insane prices. He died from an infected gunshot wound, and his death was ruled as a suicide.

Leonardo Da Vinci was born out of wedlock. His dad was such a playboy, he went on to get married four times! Leo’s uncle automatically became his father figure. He was homeschooled and often did a lot of couch surfing — jumping from one relative’s home to the next. When he was an adult, he got accused of sodomy, which he narrowly escaped.

Most people like to talk about the artwork, not the artist these days. I believe before we go on to appreciate art, we should question what influences or motivates the artist to create in the first place. Maybe asking after one or two artists today could be enough to change a couple of lives!
