28 March 2016 — http://zepheira.com — Qatar National Library (QNL) has signed with Zepheira to transform its collection catalog into linked data format and share it broadly on the Web. QNL is the first library in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to bring its collections to the Web with Linked Data technologies developed by Zepheira.
Dr. Krishna RoyChowdhury, Director of Library Information at QNL stated, “QNL is one of the leaders of modern, technology-driven libraries in the region. By introducing BIBFRAME, QNL will unlock valuable, authoritative bibliographic data. This is crucial to the access of knowledge and has been so perfectly created and managed by libraries for generations. We will be the first library in the region to take part in this initiative and publish Arabic content as Linked Data to the Web-enabling it to be explored via the search engines.”
“Zepheira is honored to have QNL as our first library partner in the Middle East,” explained Eric Miller, President of Zepheira. “We are looking forward to opening their tremendous collections to the Web, enabling scholars and citizens alike to more easily discover treasures in the Heritage Collection and Arab Law Collection, to name but two.”
QNL is taking a leadership role in the region, not only through revealing the full collection to a larger audience but also in bringing results in the local language. Zepheira is looking forward to making this remarkable, extensive collection not only available on the Web, but retrievable in Arabic and English.
QNL’s efforts in this area support Qatar’s journey towards a knowledge-based economy by spreading knowledge, nurturing imagination, cultivating creativity and preserving the nation’s heritage for future generations. It does this by providing access to a wealth of resources through its exceptional selection of online databases, regular training programmes, and social engagement initiatives.
