Canadian University Scholarships for Indian Students

Given its status as a talent hub, it is not surprising for universities to offer country-specific international scholarship to students from India. Funding and financial aid are available to support both graduate researchers and undergraduate students to pursue their studies. These scholarships are awarded to students of Indian nationality aspiring to study in Canada on a study permit.

University of Alberta

Scholarship name: University of Alberta — India First Year Excellence Scholarship

Amount : $5,000.00 CAD

Offered by: University of Alberta

Basic criteria: Awarded to students studying in Canada on a study permit with superior academic achievement entering the first year of a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program from India. Selection based on high school academic standing. Students must have graduated from a high school in India and have less than 24 IB, AP, or A-Level credits when beginning their undergraduate program at the University of Alberta. Transfer Students are not eligible for this scholarship.

Application procedure: Applicants to the university are automatically considered for this award.

Scholarship name: University of Alberta — India Centenary Scholarship

Amount: $20,000 payable over 4 years

Offered by: University of Alberta

Basic criteria: Awarded to students on a study permit with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta from a high school in India. Selection is based on academic standing, demonstrated leadership qualities based on involvement in extracurricular and community activities, and a counsellor or teacher’s letter of recommendation. Renewal of funding for the second, third, and fourth years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta, while studying on a study permit. Students must have graduated from a high school in India and have less than 24 IB, AP, or A-Level credits when beginning their undergraduate program at the University of Alberta.

Application procedure: Applicants must submit a seperate online application for the scholarship after applying to the University of Alberta

University of Calgary

Scholarship name: Principal’s International Scholarship — India

Amount: $20,000.00

Offered by: University of Calgary

Basic criteria: Must be considered citizens of India. Renewable for 1 subsequent year provided a minimum 3.50 GPA is maintained in a full course load in year one.

Application procedure: Students will be automatically considered for this award, no application is required.

Queen’s University

Scholarship name: Mehran Bibi Sheikh Memorial Entrance Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Offered by: Queen’s University

Basic criteria:

  • Academic excellenc
  • Awarded to 1 male and 1 female student
  • Preference will be given to international students who have Pakistani citizenship. If there are no eligible Pakistani students then the scholarship will be awarded to eligible male and female international students.

Dalhousie University

Scholarship name: CorpFinance International Limited (Kevin Andrews) Indian Bursary

Amount: $60,000 — $15,000 renewable for 4 years

Offered by: Dalhousie University

Basic criteria:

  • Students from India who demonstrate good academic standing and financial need and are entering the first year of Bachelor of Commerce program.

Application procedure: Students should submit a General Entrance Award application by March 1.

University of Victoria

Scholarship name: Aga Khan Academy Renewable Scholarship

Amount: $90,000.00 payable over 4 years

Offered by: University of Victoria

Basic criteria:

  • Be admitted to the University of Victoria
  • Be entering your first undergraduate degree program
  • Have an excellent academic record (“A” average, or minimum of 32 IB points)
  • Be an international student on a study permit status
  • Meet UVic’s academic and English proficiency requirements. See English Language Proficiency requirements
  • Submit an online application via your UVic My Page and have all required documentation, including your nominator’s documentation sent to entrance@uvic.cabetween January 01 and February 28.

Application procedure:

International students must send in an interim transcript or a final transcript by February 28 to Undergraduate Admissions to be assessed for an International Scholarship. In addition, students must be nominated by a school guidance counsellor, principal or department head at an Aga Khan Academy. Form must be submitted by Feb 28.

Scholarship name: President’s Beyond Borders’ Fund

Amount: $5,000

Offered by: University of Victoria

Basic criteria: Offered to international students from the Asia Pacific region entering an undergraduate program at the University of Victoria.

The Asia Pacific region includes: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, East Timor, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Tuvalu, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, American Samoa, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, New Caledonia, Northern Marian Islands, North Korea, Wallis and Futuma, Mongolia, Taiwan.
