Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is the largest post secondary institution in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Here are a few facts and figures about the institution:

Memorial University of Newfoundland: Facts and Figures

Location

MUN is established to remember the sacrifice of Newfoundlanders during the First World War. Today, the university’s three locations in the province and a small campus in England houses over 18,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students¹. Because of the provincial government’s support and its location in a smaller city, both undergraduate and postgraduate course fees at MUN are among the lowest in Canada.

Academics

MUN is known for its academic excellence in nautical fields like underwater vehicles and marine engineering. But the school offers more than that: programs in the arts, the sciences, and business administration are in fact the leading units by enrollment. A forward thinking institution, MUN also offers 25 programs ranging from professional diplomas, bachelor’s degree to master’s degree that can be completed entirely online.

MUN’s academic-staff-to-student ratio as of 2016 is 11.⁹¹. In recent years, MUN has produced Rhodes scholars in musicology (2018), medicine (2017), economics and political science (2016)².

Research fields covered include personalised medicine, scientific computing, and northern governance and public policy.
