Celebrating Small Victories: Teamwork in Action

It’s funny that the last post on this publication, by Elaheh Eghbal, talked about teamwork in action, because, getting it up on Medium required quite a bit of it! But, it got me thinking…as you’ll see below.

I’ve talked before about how the Zerion team is literally located around the world. In addition to those working from conferences and events, or even from home, we’ve developed a flow that, well, works for us. Let me go back to the beginning.

We’re new to this Medium space. We think it’s a great way to share our personalities, to allow our team members to develop their voices and to connect with others. It’s a great outlet and publishing space!

Prior to setting up our two Zerion publications, I’d never actually used the platform before, nor had most of our team members. But, everyone enthusiastically jumped on board.

I work remotely, but got started setting everything up and adding writers, editors, etc, to our account. Others started writing blog posts and thinking about topics that they’d like to explore further. But when it came time to pull it together — yesterday, on a Monday morning — it wasn’t quite as straightforward as we thought it would be.

So, we did what we always do. We communicated over Slack, those in the office tried to guide others in the posting of the articles to this publication (I think a post might go into the technical details of what I’m talking about…so I’ll spare those for now!). We talked, we tried various methods and we kept going until it clicked…which it did!

During this time, because of the way our team works, encourages and cheers others on, frustration (which could have mounted quickly in another environment) was minimized. The best part, though? It came at the end. It came when the posts went live and our team celebrated and cheered together.

Was it a small victory? Yes. But, when your team celebrates even the small things, it makes what could otherwise be mundane an ordinary, something more. It makes solving a challenge even more worthwhile. It makes a Monday something special — you know that can be hard to accomplish!

Does your team take the time to celebrate the small wins? Do you even recognize them at all? I say start searching for them! Over time, it’ll become a natural thing that makes life (and work) a little better for everyone. Who couldn’t use that?!
