Everyone else has been talking about omnichain NFTs recently.

But what exactly are omnichain NFTs, though?

If you’re unsure what omnichain NFTs are, don’t worry — this article will teach you all you need to know about this phenomenon that has just taken the NFT space by storm.

But first, let’s figure out what NFTs are?

What are NFTs?

Tokens are digital — non-copyable versions of code which represent ownership and access to certain benefits. Think about your college graduation certificate. Think about your ID card. These items are unique, meaningful, and can not be duplicated. The features mentioned above make them non-fungible. Now, these items can be tokenized — represented on the blockchain with a digital version. Hence, the name: Non-Fungible Token(NFT).

A non-fungible token, or NFT, is the digital representation of physical assets like an image, audio file, or video. An NFT cannot be copied and provides a user with a proof of ownership on a blockchain. This ensures anyone can easily verify each NFT/Item’s authenticity, just like art museums can distinguish between real art and an art student’s copy.

NFTs differ from cryptocurrency as they cannot be traded or exchanged equivalently. While you can sell one Bitcoin for another, each NFT is unique.

Understanding Omnichain NFTs

Omnichain NFTs are NFTs that can exist/be bridged over from one chain to another. Imagine buying an NFT on Avalanche (not supported by OpenSea) and being able to bridge that NFT to Ethereum and selling it on OpenSea as an ERC 721 token.

The recent interest surge in the NFT genre is directly linked to the rise of LayerZero Labs, a Canada-based team building the interoperability protocol LayerZero. Layer Zero is a blockchain transport layer for messaging that allows accessible communication among many blockchains. This feature ensures NFT smart contracts can interact with each other on different blockchains, thereby opening up novel possibilities around NFTs.

To better understand how omnichain NFTs work, let’s compare omnichain to the well-known multi and crosschain. Crosschain transactions occur when multiple blockchains can interact and share value directly. Multichain technology allows projects to exist on at least two blockchains simultaneously. E.g., Cosmos.

In contrast, an omnichain protocol only supports messaging and has no wrapping or intermediary layers. As a result, each connected network receives instant support, and smart contracts execute with no additional trust assumptions or separate consensus.

The Rise of Omnichain NFTs

Omnichain NFTs are designed to have different characteristics — depending on which chain they are based on — which can alter when transferred to another chain. This interoperability reduces the need for other blockchains and means NFTs can exist in more expansive ways.

While this is exciting, it is important to note that omnichain NFTs aren’t new or limited to Layer Zero.

The Omnichicks Example

Two weeks ago, Omnichicks was number one on Icy.tools trending NFT collection by sales. Omnichicks was launched on our platform — Zero Code NFT — a no-code tool for seamless NFT development and deployment. Omnichicks is our first Omnichain project launched with 10k CC0 NFTs. The project allows the minting of each NFT on different chains. Ethereum, BSC, Avalanche, Polygon, Fantom, Arbitrum, and Optimism are available. As discussed above, the NFTs will don’t have to stay on one network; instead, one can move them between each network as per the owner’s will.

Omnichicks were first minted on April 17th, 2022, and currently have 4003 tokens (ETH) in circulation with 93 unique traits. Just like other omnichain NFT projects, Omnichicks utilize CC0 copyright licensing. CC0 (or creative commons) is a permissive license that allows anyone to use each NFT however they want, without permission from the creator.

There is no particular reason why omnichain NFTs use CC0, but the licensing ties in with the NFT space’s feeling of openness, which sets them apart from traditional media or art.

Apart from the Omnichicks project, there are other Omnichain projects out there. For example, Ghostly Ghost — a ghost-themed NFT collection, and UMA’s Optimistic Oracle. There are also other projects like Axie Infinity and CoolCats bridging the L1-L2 NFT gap.

How Can I Launch My Omnichain Project?

Do you want to launch your own Omnichain NFT project but don’t know how to? Well, you’re in luck. On our platform, you can order omnichain collection development and deployment as a custom order for your project. Doing this will give omnichain functionalities to any of your projects on any blockchain of your choice.

What’s more, you do not require any smart contract development skills to create and deploy your collection. Our platform will provide you with all the tools you need to launch and a dashboard for managing your project.

To get started, book your NFT deployment call directly with Ihor Bodnarchuk, Founder & CEO of Zero Code NFT.‍
