Equation of Life
This life is a very complex equation, which many of us are still trying to solve.
Hi, this is Monica. I am currently working as Member of Technical Staff at Nutanix, Bangalore. I belong to a very small town called Guna, in Central India. The story will be a bit emotional one. I am not a storyteller, so pardon me if I am not good with my words. But the feelings are real. We all hear stories about celebrities, but there are many of us who might have not become a celebrity, but is no less than one. It’s about my father.
The Childhood
My grandfather used to live in a small village. He was no rich man. He was not having acres of land. He was a farmer having a small piece of land that too shared with his four brothers. Feeding a family of three kids and a wife was already a tough job. So he used to work as porter (person employed to carry luggage and other loads in the market) sometimes.
Virendra, was the youngest among the three kids. He had an elder brother(Pahelwan) and an elder sister(Kanta). In those days, sending the girl child to school was not a thing. So, only the two sons used to go to the government school in the village which was till Class 8. Both of them used to leave home for school, but only the youngest one used to go to the school.
The elder one, Pahelwan used to go elsewhere, where he started smoking Beedi (thin cigarette or mini-cigar filled with tobacco flak). He would hide his school bag in a pit and spend the school time in doing all the wrong stuffs possible. The kids those days, in the village were like that, they will do gambling and smoking, everything other than studies. Parents also were not serious about the studies.
The younger one, Virendra was different. He was religious. He used to worship Lord Hanuman a lot. He believed in good deeds. He used to go to the school religiously. He had some aspirations. He wanted to change his life. He wanted to do something big. He had dreams. He didn’t want to live a life of a porter. So he studied.
Time passed and they grew up. Pahelwan had left his studies. Virendra passed the class 8th exams. And since the school was only till 8th class, there was no way of continuing the studies. But he wanted to study further. He wanted to go to the nearby town. He tried talking to his family, but they refused saying that, we don’t have money to even feed you kids properly, how will we afford your education. They forced him to leave his studies.
He couldn’t sleep whole night. He saw his dreams shattering. Then he again tried asking his parents. Now, the parents got angry and asked to go away and do whatever he wants to do on his own. They cannot help him in any way.
Virendra’s passion made him to leave his home, with no money in hand. No one was there to help him. With many dreams in his eyes and empty pockets, he left the village for the nearby town, Guna.
