It’s 5:00 A.M she wakes up at the rooster’s crow sound. The first job she does is to greet her family and then feed the cattle. The fresh air around her woke her up from sleep without needing coffee. She does her chores, carries her little backpack, and walks to school. She meets her friends on the way.

On the other side of the hill, a guy wakes up at 6:00 with the sound of his alarm clock. The first task he does is check his social media. He wakes up from his sleep with a cup of coffee. He doesn’t have chores to do. His day starts with his friends locked up in a small device known as a phone and his school locked up in his laptops.

The two sides of the same generation yet have two different stories. One is unknown to the internet and electronics, while another is about the joy of having physical friends and enjoying the fresh air.

Our generation has become so engrossed in our technology that we have forgotten about natural ties and enjoyment without them. If we see a scenic view, we first search for our phone and click its picture rather than taking a deep breath, enjoying it, and living in the moment. If we don’t have our phones with us, it feels like we have a mini heart attack. Our generation has been glued to devices so much that we prefer having friends online rather than in real life.

The other day I was at my uncle’s house, and I saw my 3-year-old sister opening youtube and watching her favorite show. She was better among aloof us using the device. When we were her age, the only thing we would be waiting to watch was Doraemon or Ninja Hattori and switching up between cartoons when there was a break in between. Nowadays, kids don’t know the fun of watching cartoons on television and waiting for an advertisement to end.

During Dashain this year, it was hard for me to find kids on the terrace flying kites. It was hard for me even to spot one kite in the sky. Tihar this year also wasn’t the usual old vibe. The group of people playing Deusi and Bhilo had reduced a lot as if our culture is getting vanished. People prefer staying in their rooms glued to their phones rather than going out to enjoy making rangoli with family n joining for the puja.

The mobile phone was discovered in 1984, 38 years before now. The device was introduced to have a way of accessible communication. Now the device has been a way of entertainment. We can go by missing our wallets, but our phones must be in our pockets. We can’t talk about the wrong side of electronic devices as it also has some positive effect.

Let’s start with the 2020 worldwide lockdown. Imagine what your condition would have been if there were no electronic devices or the internet. Students like us would have lost a few years of hard work. We wouldn’t be able to communicate with our loved ones and know how they are. The daily updates would have been hard to get. It would have been harder to get groceries. The method of online classes has made it possible for us to go beyond our textbook and learn something new and explore our knowledge. The availability of online books has helped students save money and the burden of carrying the load of bulky and heavy books that are expensive.

At last, all the things I mentioned might be reaching you all through the same mobile phone that has imparted us but has also made many things more accessible.
