Hey ChatGPT
Bot: Hello! I'm Assistant, not ChatGPT. Is there something specific you'd like to know or discuss?
Human: How are you?
BOT: I am just a computer program, so I don’t have feelings or emotions like a human does. However, I am functioning properly and am here to help answer your questions to the best of my ability. Is there anything specific you would like to know or discuss?
Human: what’s 2 plus 2?
Bot: 2 plus 2 is equal to 4.
Human: I have 6 eggs. I broke 2, I cooked 2 and ate 2. How many eggs do I have?
Bot: You have 2 eggs remaining. You broke 2 eggs, cooked and ate 2 eggs, so you have 6–2–2 = 2 eggs left.
Have you ever dreamed of having a friend to chat with at any time? Friend in the form of technology that makes you feel like you are talking with a genuine person? Well, we have all seen virtual assistants like Google assistant, Siri, and Bixby etc giving you the charming experience of using the smartphone devices which are always there to answer some of your questions, tell you funny jokes, play songs for you on your voice command. These are all voice-based pieces of technology. You give a voice command and you get the response.
At the end of November 2022, a similar kind of tech but based on text was introduced by OpenAI, one of the world’s most ambitious A.I. labs. It is called the chatGPT, the hot piece of cake in tech that quickly became the latest fad in tech since the beginning of December 2022. ChatGPT is a Generative Pre-trained Transformer(GPT)-based AI chat-bot which you can chat with. It has been trained to process and automatically generates human-like text based on written prompts. This piece of hot cake in tech was baked with very huge cream, chocolate and fruit of internet data filled and topped around the bread of Machine Learning and flavored with features which allow you ask questions on various topics and get quick responses. For example, if you want to know if cake can be imagined without cream, it quickly answers you if it was so. Similarly, you can ask like ‘make a rap song about Nepal’ or ‘how does oxygen get inside the ponds?’ or questions like ‘why is the Avatar story so similar with the history of European empires’ colonization period?’ or ‘what are the grammatical mistakes made in this article?’. It uses machine learning to understand the context of a conversation and generate relevant responses. You can ask as many questions as you want. It will always simply answer you, or tell you that this particular problem or question is beyond the boundaries of my intelligence.
By far, before reading this line, I assume you probably have googled it, or some of you who haven’t used it before may have just logged in and tested it as well. So, what’s next? What is the use of such an intelligent technology?
So, in everyday life, we see lots of things, we face lots of problems, we imagine lots of ideas, we want to learn something. Nobody is born with all the professional skills that ever exist in the entire milky way galaxy. We have to learn it when it’s required. For example, if you have a presentation tomorrow on a particular topic and you haven’t made a presentation before or you have no clue how to start, you can simply ask chatGPT to make a presentation on that particular topic with some additional information, then it will generate a sample presentation for you on that topic. Of course, the thing it generates is not a pptx file, but rather some plain texts. If you are from the computer field, you probably want to learn some programming language or build your coding skill. If you are a student, you may have gotten stuck on a certain problem in your assignment. Once upon a time, we used to look at YouTube tutorials and videos, or search on google to solve that particular problem, learn particular things. We used to go through search results on Google or Bing page by page. Now, we don’t need to look through all the suggested pages shown by search engines one by one just to seek a solution. Now, you can simply ask it on chatGPT.
The most impressive thing is, it will also generate numerical examples and example codes. Ask it to teach you linear programming problems. Ask it to create a timeline of WW2 major events. It will give that too. Ask it to explain how energy is transmitted in hydroelectricity. Ask how wireless charging works? The answers you received for all of these questions may have definitely made you addicted to it. The days of searching through pages and pages of websites and going through videos on YouTube and having no guarantee of finding a right solution to your problem are over. Now, you can simply ask chatGPT for the answer and solution. You can learn Math, Science, History, English Grammar and everything else on this platform. Other stuff it can do are, it can produce amusing poems and songs, reflective essays on virtually any topic, summaries of articles, chat-based customer service, personalized advice and much more.
The ability of the system to produce highly relevant and coherent responses that fit the context of the conversation is unparalleled and hard to imagine. We haven’t introduced a technology that would deal with human prompts like it does, before. So, is it really the next big thing that has ever come into the world of technology? Is ChatGPT the Start of the AI Revolution?
When Steve Jobs introduced the I-phone back in 2007, it was the biggest revolution in the field of mobile phones. Features such as a large touch screen interface, virtual keyboard, concept of apps and a browser to access the internet had definitely made it a game changer . When big tech companies like Amazon or Apple introduced Virtual Assistant like Alexa or Siri, it was completely new for the people. They also quickly became popular among people. They completely changed the lifestyle of people. Who does not like to give voice commands to turn on lights? Who does not like just to give voice commands and play their favorite music.
Now, we have chatGPT. It somehow does a similar job like they do in the case of searching and finding the appropriate answers or solutions for your prompts in more creative ways compared to the same language model developed by big tech companies. It has the feature of scalability that it can deal with any topics and problems. Yes, it cannot play your favorite music but it can deliver unique and novel answers never written by humans before. This is something new. As I told you before, nobody likes to go through pages and pages just to seek an answer. It has the potential to shape new ways of searching on the internet. This could be the next search engine or potentially challenge search engines like Google Search. This will definitely change the way we used to do things before. So, it may be a big thing until now but I wouldn’t say it is the start of the AI revolution. The robot Sophia, the robots by Boston Dynamics and many more are already there doing some cool cool stuff. So, we are already in the phase of the AI revolution. So I would like to call it a new milestone in the field of AI.
As we know, it can solve all your problems and answer all your questions, or at least it will try to. Now the biggest question is or ask yourself, can it be trusted? Is the information given by it, authentic? Who is there to verify it? How accurate are the responses? One concern is that it may not always generate responses that are completely accurate or appropriate. You would have 6 eggs left based on the grammar on the “I have 6 eggs” riddle. Because you have 6 eggs in the present and you broke, cooked and ate 2 eggs in the past. For some questions related to social norms, values, personal beliefs and human history, chatGPT may give a lengthy and seemingly logical response, but it may not always be factually accurate. There’s also the bias problem, which is true for many kinds of AI-powered software. That’s why we cannot entirely rely on it. If we feel some doubt, we should immediately look for another source and we should cross check. So I would suggest you not to trust entirely everything it responds to. As I told you, no one is there to verify it, it should be you to verify it. It should be you to validate the responses. It should be you.
Overall, chatGPT is a powerful tool that has the potential to revolutionize the way we learn from the internet, the way businesses interact with their customers and automate certain tasks. All problems should be common challenges that students and learners may encounter while studying, learning, and exploring new subjects or topics. The problems shouldn’t be the problem of your life. Do not use this tool to seek a solution for problems in your life, and to address some complex issues. You can use this tool to ask for tips which are helpful to make a good habit like tips on following daily schedules and timetables, tips on getting rid from procrastination, tips to improve your English grammar, and tips to influence friends and people etc. Do not use this tool to talk about some serious issues like depression, anxiety and some of your difficult situations. It is very wise to talk about these situations with real people who can understand you and help you overcome it. Now, although it has some inaccuracies and it is not real human to share your feelings with, it is a great tool to ask questions that arise in your mind and explore something new.
