Zetane Wants You: Paid Internship to Connect Video Game and AI Software Tools

Help us build software tools that implicate graphics programming, synthetic data, video-game development Engines and real-world applications of machine learning.

This position is fully remote and open only to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Reporting to our head of graphics and visualization technologies (Dr. Heshem), you will create new software features, development tools, and data pipelines throughout the Zetane Engine graphics & machine learning tech stack. Your work will help advance a unique partnership between our company and the world-leading video game developer, Epic Games (see our press release about us winning the Epic Games MegaGrant).

Following a stellar mid-term performance review, you will have the opportunity to receive a pay raise in recognition of your amazing achievements. We want great talent to grow to their full potential: there thus is a possibility — but not certainty — that we will offer you a part- or full-time position at the end of your internship.

Responsibilities and tasks that will comprise your internship

• Build new features for the Zetane standalone Engine and its plugins (Unreal Engine, Unity Engine, Wasm);
• Provide Engine and scripting support for Zetane teams working on bespoke machine learning projects;
• Optimize performance and resource usage of existing software tools and data pipelines;
• Create internal user interfaces (UI), editors, scripts, and data pipelines to empower our tech team;
• Fix and report software bugs and write software documentation.

Must-have skills for this riveting internship

• An ability and familiarity with working remotely;
• Experience with developing desktop apps, video games, data processing tools, and/or interactive experiences;
• Excellent working knowledge of C, C++, Rust or a similar compiled programming language;
• Experience with graphics programming, which can include any graphics API or video-game Engine;
• Great communication skills and a strong work ethic so you can collaborate with a team of programmers, designers, data scientists and business analysts;
• Portfolio summarizing your previous relevant projects. Projects that involve OpenGL, DirectX, Vulkan, WebGL, WebGPU, Unity/Unreal Engines, Godot are ideal;
• A passion for coding high-performance, user-friendly software tools.

Nice-to-have-skills that will set you apart

• Knowledge of CMake, DevOps practices, and workload containerization (e.g., CMake/make/nmake, CI/CD recipes, AWS/Azure);
• Knowledge of computer networking and serialization protocols (e.g., TCP, UDP, WebSocket);
• Knowledge of WebAssembly (Wasm);
• Knowledge of concurrency and parallelism patterns.
