What is the purpose?

At Ziegert, we empower the engineering squads to find the right tool for the job. With flexibility comes the responsibility to keep everyone aligned with new tech.

It’s not news that technology is evolving. It’s challenging to keep track of new trends, deprecation or when some tool is not maintained anymore.

To provide transparency and inspire knowledge sharing across different squads, we’ve created our very first Tech Radar.

What is the Tech Radar?

We’ve put together a list of technologies, frameworks and tools we’ve been using or researching to provide suitable solutions for the challenging projects we have. We divided our radar into four quadrants: ADOPT, TRIAL, ASSESS and HOLD.

  • ADOPT —These are technologies we are confident can serve the purpose but also on a large scale. These are low risk and highly recommended.
  • TRIAL — We succeed in using these technologies to solve real-world problems. Engineers can share their knowledge and experience but should investigate the technology further.
  • ASSESS — Technologies in this ring are promising and have clear potential for us. It’s worth researching these further. But Assess Technologies have a higher risk. They’re often new and unproven within the company.
  • HOLD — Technologies not recommended for new projects. Technologies that not worth the investment.

What are the next steps?

Often we research new tech to understand their usage and check if it fulfils our requirements. We will continue updating our Tech Radar and we want to share all our experiences with you, so feel free to follow us on medium.
