Zinc blazes a trail onto the Mainnet 🔥

We are thrilled to announce our launch onto the Mainnet today. As many of you will know, this is a significant milestone for Zinc and a huge step towards achieving our vision for interoperable, decentralised identities.

Using the main network is key for Zinc and any decentralised identity or reputation system for two key reasons:

~ Identity proofs and reputation built in a test environment cannot be migrated thanks to the blockchains immutable nature. You shouldn’t be able to take a reputation from a test network to the real main network. Since these networks have different governance and incentive systems. Entities act in different ways when they are using test ETH.

~ Secondly for portability, to allows users to trustlessly take their identity & reputation across from Zinc to another platform. This is only just becoming a possibility inter-network (across mainnet dApps) so it’s a long way off being possible across different networks.

We should trust the main network to be the indisputable source of truth and not dilute that. In a self-indulgent side point, they prove or disprove the ability of a technical team to successfully take a project from ideation to implementation. Through the necessary phases of testing to the trusted final network.

This exciting move has been nicely timed with our feature at ETH Berlin. ETHBerlin takes place on the 7/8th of September, where Zinc has been selected to be an official dApp at the event. Zinc will be used alongside Golem, Status, Aragon, Peepeth, Gitcoin and Livepeer. Attendees will be able to start building their decentralised identities by taking proofs of what they’ve learned and achieved over the weekend home with them. This is also massive news for us, and you can read more here.

Zinc will be deploying Mainnet ERC725 identities & ENS subdomains for our community who test the dApp and ETH Berlin participants. This is a significant development since it means these assets can be used across other dApps. Hopefully for the rest of the individual’s lifetime using Web3 technology.

Having put in some serious man hours, the launch of Zinc Mainnet distributed blockchain is something worth celebrating 🎉 as well as moving to the main Ethereum network. The identity contracts and ENS subdomains that Zinc fund the deployment of will have a very real value. These can be used to sign up to other dApps or collect identity proofs from other dApps/claims issuers. Zinc is funding the deployment of these subdomains and contracts via a signed message relay. Therefore users will not have to own any ETH to sign-up to Zinc and have these assets created.

With our official launch just a couple of weeks away, we will continue to perform tests and closely monitor the network. The identity contracts can receive and hold ETH/tokens but we urge caution and don’t recommend holding large sums of money in these contracts. They have passed an automated Quantstamp audit and tested internally. We’re in the infancy of their usage so expect bugs when using the platform and interacting with the contracts. We welcome any feedback from our community during the community testing. We will be releasing bounties for reporting bugs today.
