Being a Content Creator in 2017

Visibility:

Ah yes visibility. It costs a lot of money for this. You see unless you are 10/10 handsome people just don’t want to share your content no matter how good it is. Now there are some things you can do such as sharing your content across as many social media and various online platforms as possible.

That being said when it comes down to it; nothing works better than paying for advertisements of your content. Now I’m not writing this article to complain because things are what they are and I’ve accepted that. Reason being I accept the things I cannot change in order to change the things I can; this keeps me sane.

Here are a few things I can do which you can do as well to help with visibility:

  • Sign up for several new social media websites per week and post your content to them.
  • Pay Twitter to promote your tweets
  • Pay YouTube to promote your videos
  • Get a master’s degree in Search Engine Optimization (lol)
  • Have hope

Networking:

They say it’s the best thing you can do but what they don’t say is how reluctant people are to do it. It’s the reason why so many people fail. You see folks on Twitch and YouTube are so focused on making sure they’re successful they like to horde their audiences to themselves and only when you are properly honoring them and kissing ass will they publicly acknowledge you and support you.

If you are the type of content creator that is unique and focuses only on what you are doing then networking is a very difficult thing to do. Also lets not forget the obvious when it comes to esports and content creators. African-Americans or mutli-racial people in general are not that well accepted. This is not said to target white people because it’s not their problem that the powers that be are reinforcing a white-washing of online media just as it’s been with Hollywood for years.

So if you want to network as a white person it is much easier than if you are a multi-ethnic person. Now I’m just pointing out an observable and obvious thing and as to not be whining lets think of some ways in which anyone regardless of race can network.

A few ways anyone can network:

  • Create a community site that is a useful utility for those in your community to connect and work with one another to achieve great things.
  • Innovate new things that have large applications
  • Do not point out the white-washing because that creates conflict and paints the majority who you can network with as part of the problem. But because its something on such a huge level that they can’t fix you’re just frustrating and irritating them.
  • Be in as many places as possible and communicate with as many people as possible.
  • Collaborate on content creation and if you impress then you’ll probably be welcomed back to assist in the future. Just make sure that you are properly recognized and publicly identified for your contributions.

Staying Positive:

This is probably one of the largest challenges because often times things just won’t give; even a little. Often times you’re just spinning your wheels not going anywhere. But if you let people know how you feel about being lost in the over-saturated digital landscape which we are in today then that will come across as a guy/girl moping and making all sorts of unhappy faces on their stream.

Your viewers pick up on the vibes you put off in your content. Either through your videos or your streams. So if you come across to people that just so happen to drift into your channel as a sad and unhappy person understand that they’re not going to feel bad and cheer you up by doing something nice.

No, they’re going to tune out and go somewhere more positive with better vibes. That’s why you have to do the opposite of that and stay cheerful and in a good mood no matter how bleak everything looks.

Lets face it you’d feel worse for someone who has a glowing, positive, and cheerful personality and vibes with tons of effort and dedication to what they do than someone who is putting in little effort, giving up constantly, putting off bad vibes, and whining all the time.

Here is how you can stay positive:

  • Listen to cheerful and positive music with good vibes.
  • Do not give attention to trolls and let the negativity others bring to you slip off your mind while remaining focused on the good stuff.
  • Play oblivious to the unfortunate circumstances that face you.
  • Keep a smile on
  • Make a post-it note with all the things that make you happy and look at it
  • Check your cam in OBS every few min to see if you’re smiling and cheerful; if you aren’t look at that sticky note to fix that.

These are a few things to keep in mind as a content creator in our current day and age. I hope you found this article helpful and informative. If it assisted you and there are folks that you think could benefit from it please share this with them.
