Zowasel, the agricultural technology company leveraging data science to support farmers across Africa, has introduced logistics support for merchants trading on its Marketplace platform.

This support ensures that merchants who have traded twice or multiple times on the Marketplace platform and have difficulty paying for logistics or securing transportation to a buyer’s location receive assistance. Zowasel supports these merchants by either making payments for the logistics or providing a truck to pick up and deliver their produce from their warehouses directly to buyers.

Zowasel Marketplace connects commodity sellers with verified and trusted buyers, saving time and money for both parties. The platform enhances interactions between verified customers, ensures smooth transactions, and fosters credible partnerships, efficiency, transparency, trustworthiness, and accountability across the supply chain.

Logistics in agriculture face challenges such as volatile fuel prices, bad roads, insecurity, and multiple road taxes. In Nigeria, these factors, along with fuel scarcity, inflation, and unstable commodity prices, make it difficult for merchants to deliver agro-commodities to buyers seamlessly.

With this initiative, Zowasel ensures full support for the conveyance of produce for merchants who have traded twice on the Marketplace. The company provides vehicles to pick up farm produce from merchants’ locations and deliver it to buyers’ warehouses.

Chioma Obianuju, Success Manager at Zowasel, said: “Zowasel will collaborate with reputable logistics companies to pick up farm produce from the merchant’s location to end-users warehouses. We will also initiate partial payments, ensuring complete transportation and documentation. This streamlines the process, fostering reliability and efficiency for all stakeholders, and reducing the strain on merchants while maintaining a smooth supply chain. This intervention helps facilitate seamless trade because, in today’s interconnected global economy, logistics is the backbone of efficient supply chain management.”

The overall goal of this support is to solve the pressing issue of logistics for merchants and improve trade on Zowasel’s flagship solution, the commodity marketplace. A survey by Zowasel’s Customer Success Team shows that logistics is a major challenge affecting the delivery of agro-commodities to buyers’ warehouses. Merchants sometimes prefer to sell at their warehouses due to logistics costs, leading to requests for commodity pickup from their warehouses instead of delivering to buyers’ warehouses. Zowasel now lifts this burden off the shoulders of merchants trading on its marketplace.

“One significant benefit of using the Zowasel marketplace is that merchants know the buyers’ delivery price to their warehouse, giving them the option of a better offer and the best delivery location,” Obianuju added.

Zowasel’s logistics support addresses critical challenges faced by merchants in the agribusiness sector. By offering tailored logistics support and collaborating with logistics platforms, Zowasel empowers merchants to overcome transportation hurdles, ensuring smooth and efficient transactions. This approach contributes to the sustainability and profitability of the agribusiness industry in Nigeria.
