It is much needed of the beloved iPhone in a small form factor and it is perhaps the best size, an iPhone could ever get. It is also an important device for the time we are living upon. The pandemic has caused us to make decisions we may have not considered to do so. Especially in terms of finance, as many of us will reconsider a lot of our purchasing decisions and this makes the best case for it. Now I am not saying that everyone is doing financially bad. But you get the idea. So what’s the deal with it?

Here’s the deal:

  1. A compact phone 📱 (4.7 inch)
  2. Flagship processor (A13 Bionic)
  3. Great camera 📸
  4. The price (US$399/S$649)🤑
  5. Software updates for at least 4 - 5 years! 🥳

You get an iPhone for a price of a usual android mid-range phone. No one is going to hand you a device that is going to be as good as the iPhone SE, probably Google (but they will compromise on the processor 😅) and this proves why we all should make a big deal out of it, also do note it is APPLE, a company selling Mac Pro wheels for US$699 has chosen to sell an iPhone that’s literally half of the price of those wheels. However, it’s not all good and no flaws with this phone

Let’s take a look on the issues with this phone:

  1. Retains a 2014 design: iPhone 6 🙄
  2. A camera of 2018 standards 😬
  3. Huge bezels reminding us of 2016 😑

These are some of the obvious flaws of the new iPhone and that should not stop you necessarily.

So let’s answer the main question: Should you buy it?

The answer is “it depends”. Someone buying this is a) a person in budget, b) a person who loves compact phones, c) a person who really wants to try iOS without breaking the bank and d) someone who wants a simple iPhone that does the basics without the bells & whistle of their current flagship. These folks are the target audience for this iPhone.

I gotta say, Apple has covered it all. iPhone SE sales is going to outperform the flagships such as iPhone 11 & 11 Pro due to the prices in countries like India and other emerging countries. Which all in all, a big win for the company that has struggled to make a dent in the market share of smartphones sold in these countries. So, kudos to Apple for creating a product that is much needed now than ever.

Will I buy it? I would buy it of course! an iPhone that cost less than S$1000 is a no-brainer in the place I live in. However, the work I do requires me to have an iPhone that is primarily flagship and due to which I may not buy it. However, if say an iPhone SE (2022) comes out with a iPhone 11 design, I may consider it for sure 😉.
