Synopsis: Four siblings live happily with their loving mother in a 2DK apartment in Tokyo. However, their fathers are all separate, they have never attended school, and their three younger siblings’ existence is unknown to the landlord. One day, the mother leaves the house with a little cash and a short note, leaving the older brother in charge of the younger siblings. From that day on, the four children begin their drifter life, unbeknownst to anyone.

I was moved by the four children who were abandoned by their mothers, and how they lived strong and resilient lives in the midst of their difficult lives. In the latter half of the film, their lives are so cruel that it reminds me of the lives of the siblings in “ Grave of the Fireflies” when the electricity and water are cut off and their food supply runs out.
There are similarities between this work and “Grave of the Fireflies. The children are abandoned by “adults,” or the world. Kore-eda portrays this objectively.What is wonderful about the director is that he does not direct in a way that forces his opinions on viewers. This film is not about right and wrong.
