Synopsis: Joe, who has been aware of her genitals since childhood, loses her virginity to Jerome, a young motorcycle enthusiast, at the age of 15. 2 years later, she and her childhood friend, B, lead a radical and uninhibited high school life, riding trains in provocative outfits and playing games to seduce and have relations with men. Eventually, Joe gets a job at a printing company, where she meets Jerome again. She falls in love with Jerome, but loses him to another woman, and as a reaction, she begins to have sex with countless men. ……

The final film in director Lars Von Trier’s depressive trilogy. I didn’t dare to watch the first part, “Antichrist,” because it was made when Trier was at the peak of his depression, and I think it is a cruel film. The second part, “Melancholia,” had beautiful images, but was too difficult for me to understand. The final film, “Nymphomaniac vol.1” was very interesting to watch because of its easy-to-understand script and direction, contrary to the previous film, “Melancholia” which was extremely difficult to understand. The film depicts the life of the main character, Joe. Joe’s confession of her life as a sex maniac is a series of unbelievable things. As I listened to Joe’s confession, a film came to my mind. It was Akira Kurosawa’s “Rashomon”.
