Synopsis: Serbia is under occupation by Nazi Germany. A man working as a resistance fighter takes refuge in a vast underground space to escape the eyes of the enemy. After the war, there were people who had been living there for 50 years without being seen.

This film is a masterpiece that will be remembered for generations to come, created by a Serbian director who mixes humor and fantasy to depict the tragic 50-year history of his homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina (formerly Yugoslavia). The film uses the people who were forced to go underground by World War II, the country’s officials including Marko who use the people who went underground, and the director who makes propaganda films to express sadness, anger, and sorrow for the country that fought against Germany in World War II and then went into civil war.
The dialogue from the main characters, Marco, Black, Natalia, and Ivan, is a sublimation of the director’s thoughts and feelings about the tragic history of the country. In the last scene, a family gathers in a paradise separated from a small island facing the Danube River, and a party is held to music. The past is washed away, and the people are laughing happily together.

Director Emil Kusturica said.

I want people to take their passion for killing each other and use it for a better purpose. Then we can find a solution.
