If it seems like Trump could only win a presidency in 1950’s America it’s because he effectively did.

“The Best Democracy Money Can Buy”

Dear Friends and Allies,

ART NOT WAR co-founder David Ambrose co-directed a film about voter suppression this year, and this message is from him. We all need to read it. This happened on our watch, and it will happen again if we don’t confront this in the next few years.

Something really scary happened in 2008 and 2012 to the GOP: they won the white vote in both elections but lost the presidency.

So they did the most logical thing to make sure this wouldn’t happen again. They killed the voting rights act with a lawsuit financed by the Kochs. As soon as the Supreme Court made their ruling, voter ID requirements became law in many states and massive voter purges such as Interstate Crosscheck started wiping out minorities from the voter rolls purging hundreds of thousands every year since 2013. My theory is these purges turn back the clock on the racial demographics of the voter rolls by 50 years.

If it seems like Trump could only win a presidency in 1950’s America it’s because he effectively did.

What can we do?
