Dear Hillary Clinton,

Gerard Mclean here, from Englewood, Ohio, just north of Dayton. There were 100 days from your nomination to election, so I’m writing you 100 letters. This is the thirty-ninth letter. The others can be found in your USPS mailbox or online at 100HRC.com

Happy Labor Day!

I don’t have to tell you the history of Labor Day, nor remind you how many people have fought and died for labor rights that should be immutable to a human being engaged in labor, nor the benefits that we as a community have made part of the social contract with each other. You know all that.

I am confident also that you are aware that one of those most basic benefits has essentially been stripped away from labor; health care insurance. As the health care insurance corporations puts its profits ahead of paying for the actual benefits for which we buy insurance, we as individuals — not the collective “labor” — suffer. We as individuals are writing these checks or paying out more of our paychecks to pay for a service we are not getting. In short, health insurance corporations are stealing our wages while our employers are holding open the door for them.

As a reminder that we out here also know, I write these letters.

Labor continues to lose, despite the celebration of a holiday set aside to honor it.

We need UniversalCare, SinglePayer, MedicareForAll.

Regards,

Gerard McLean
cc: Sen. Sherrod Brown

PS I see you will be in Ohio today. Come to Dayton.
