It’s a place from a different era. From times when a thermal bath complex this size would have been described with adjectives like splendid or dazzling. Built to host hundreds of people seeking glamorous relaxation, now, in post-season pandemic times, reminds more of the Stanley Hotel.

A wrinkled lady floats in the warm salt bath looking at the mosaics on the high ceiling. A big-bellied man flip flops along the long corridors looking for his locker, number 537. An elderly German couple heads out of the steam room straight into the cold pool.

A confused Japanese tourist is can’t find the exit. He got trapped in the heavy red curtains, his feet buried in the plush carpet.

Soon the only thing he’ll be able to say is: do you have slippers? You can’t come in without slippers, but you can buy them at the counter. He’ll get a uniform with an old Hungarian name and a high stool to sit on and watch if everyone is having a splendid time.
