The Red por la Rendición de Cuentas (Red) launched in 2011 and was housed at the CIDE. Red is a “second tier” organization that seeks to create a context of social and political demands with the goal of designing a public policy on accountability in Mexico. It is considered “second tier” because it receives funding, and with that funding directly and indirectly supports other grassroots organizations working more closely with citizens.

Red works through academic research and excellence and promotes extensive open discussion of knowledge and organized social experiences in relation to TPA in Mexico and regionally. It also encourages effective coordination of work between social organizations, public institutions, and academic institutions engaged in this subject matter.

As an organization, Red aims at promoting and expanding transparency and access to information and does so with a research and network-based approach. With a strong focus on accessing and using information to strengthen accountability by public authorities, it ultimately aims at curbing corruption and promoting government transparency.
