Dear 4WDrivers,

Our adventure together started about 2 months ago and today

4WD reached 100 followers on Medium!

So far the 4WD Project has gathered 26 women travel writers, some burgeoning and in need of some promotion, others intermediate and running their own blog, and finally some experienced, widely-read writers.

As an editor and travel writer, I am excited and surprised every day at the extraordinary diversity in the background of all these women, whether professional, cultural, or geographical.

It is an honor to receive submissions, from every single one of them.

A few weeks ago, I published a message about 4WD on Medium, and it attracted the attention of Athena Talks, a feministic Medium hub, who included it in their Publication.

I hope the next 100 followers and yourselves will enjoy 4WD and what it will become. Since week 2, 4WD is free-wheeling, in the hands of its writers. And I don’t know about you, but I love what I am reading. I have discovered amazing blogs, amazing places, amazing writing from talented women.

My wish is to keep 4WD open for burgeoning writers, to (at least try to) keep it away from a Western-centered view of the world and travel, and to make it more and more intersectional as it grows.

I hope men will join the team, and that more men and women will submit pieces discussing gender inequality in travel writing, for it is a pressing issue in travel literature as a genre.

Go on in contacting each other, reading each other, visiting each other’s blogs, learning from each other, for that is and will always be the main purpose of 4WD. Promoting, discussing, building a network around travel writing by women.

And: Follow 4WD on Twitter and on Facebook to get tips and updates!

Via felicia,

Carrie, for 4WD
