The week went fast and flat, was tied up working on a freelance assignment that is nearing completion. No books read, Exercise schedule took a hit-was unable to get up in the morning so moved the workouts to evening, which in turn led to cancelling for unexpected items to take care of. I wish I had check pointed this during the week so I could improve. Nevertheless will have get it together for the coming week. Here are the 7 bullets of this week -

  1. No country for Blockchain- As dramatic as the headline might sound, I am trying to lookup for a freelance assignment to get into REAL blockchain development- REAL is the operative word here- which rules out companies doing POC, Building Crypto exchanges and all. I am looking to get into core protocol dev stuff, so far the search in India has been a failure. Ping me in case you know about any such opportunity.
  2. [DEV BULLET OF THE WEEK- Part1] The END OF MONGODB CoolAid- Back in 2014 MongoDB was the answer questions related to choosing a datastore, It had through its brilliant marketing created an image of being the Easiest to use and most performant datastore. That time is over now, Postgres and Cloud specific KV stores like DynamoDB and Google Cloud datastore have won. More about it here-

3. Alibaba Singles day GMV > 2X of Indian E-commerce’s annual GMV- 11/11 also known as Singles’s day in China is the Chinese counterpart of the Diwali e-commerce sales in India. Alibaba alone did 25Bn USD in GMV this time. Read more about what makes Internet in China tick -

4. [DEV BULLET OF THE WEEK- Part2] Live tail as a service- Simple idea, powerful implementation makes this a must have for any developer. Live tail as a service- No need to login into multiple machines to check logs when trying to debug problems. They also have a generous free quota -

5. Has the social media Sun set begun- I started using Rescue Time(Chrome extension to track which websites you spend time on) some time back and have noticed a 25% decline in my time spent on social media-(FB and Twitter is 95% of my social media consumption). Not sure if this is a general trend but the fatigue has started to set in . Do you feel the same ?

6. Boss goes first- During one of my employment stint, I noticed from day 1- how co-founders dodged mandates that they created for all employees :) -Needless to say that startup failed. If you are a boss building a good culture you have to go first.Period.

7. You are only accountable to your 80 year old self- Most people drown there aspirations trying to live to the expectations others, what is we took every decision thinking what would the 80 yr old self think , this can give us the freedom we need to live a great life -
