This time, I drove to the ancient villages of Coja and Avô in the Alva Valley. Alva River is born in Estrela Mountains (central Portugal) and it flows to Mondego River. Coming here brings back childhood memories, ever since I can remember my family has been taking me to these spectacular beaches especially during Summer holidays. Relaxing great days spent swimming in crystal clear waters, and surrounded by deep green forests. Just perfect to cool down during very hot afternoons. And now, I take my friends even if it´s is raining cats and dogs.

Some reasons you should come here on a rainy day:

  1. Tranquil places to rest and relax
  2. Fresh and clean air
  3. Grand views to the mountains
  4. Perfect for cycling, water sports and photography lovers
  5. Glass of wine or warm coffee will taste fantastic here
  6. Can be your next adventurous or romantic getaway, no matter the season!

See how captivating it can be…

Coja is only 28 km away from Fiais da Beira, great place very close! After visiting Coja, you can take N342, road that links Coja with Avô, and it will take you just 15 minutes to get there. All the villages of Alva Valley are beautifully preserved with lots of history and fascinating landscape, for example: São Gião, Sandomil, Ponte das Três Entradas, Barril do Alva and Pomares.

Avô has a 7 km Schist walking trail through the woods by the river that takes you to Ponte das Três Entradas, another amazing ancient village in the Valley nice to visit at any time of the year.

Escape the grey, come and find here a completely different life, your own place to chill and enjoy the beautiful valley that changes its appearance from season to season.

“These people have learned not from books, but in the fields, in the wood, on the river bank. Their teachers have been the birds themselves, when they sang to them, the sun when it left a glow of crimson behind it at setting, the very trees, and wild herbs.”
―Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, “A Day in the Country”
