The Art of Cryptowaves is a collection of 3139 generative artistical price waves created to honor evolutionary nature of crypto and all crypto traders. Each Cryptowave is a unique piece of artwork with elements inspired by Price Action and Technical Analysis with its own colour palette and traits.

In this article, and in the following ones, I am going to the explain the rationale behind “The Art of Cryptowaves”. You can find more info on Website, Twitter and Discord, and the first article of the series, The Genesis of Cryptowaves.

Cryptowaves have been built with careful and precise design in mind, coupled with many references and parallelisms. Let’s analyse.

Rollercoaster of Emotions

If you have a closer look at the evolution of BTC price over low or medium time frames, you will notice different patterns such as ascending or descending channels, dips, extreme volatility.

I bet that when you look at it.. you can remember the time you entered the market and your memories are bringing you back to the emotions you were experiencing at that time.

  • When did you buy your first $BTC or $ETH? Was it a Bull 🐂 or Bear 🐻Market?
  • What were your emotions 😃🤣🥰 ➡ ️🤨😞😖➡ ️😭🤬😱 when you were a newbie 👩‍💻👨‍💻? Or even when you are more experienced🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️?
  • Did you buy at support 📈 and sell at resistance 📉, or the other way round? Have you earned 💰 or have you lost 😭?
  • Have you hodl during the dips? Were you diamond hands 💎🙌 or paper hands 🧻🙌?
  • Did you ape into an unknown project that was shilled by your favourite crypto guru?
  • Were you a bagholder 👜 after 2013 or 2017 🌋 peaks?
  • Were you thinking cryptos going to the moon 🚀🌕?

The aim of The Art of Cryptowaves is to create a connection and interrelation between the algorithmically generated Artwork and the viewers, such as traders, crypto traders, investors and retails.

In my opinion, The Art of Cryptowaves project is successful if it can both evoke the emotions that crypto traders and investors were experiencing over the time, as well as if it can eternally represent and symbolize the evolution of cryptocurrencies and crypto projects.

Let’s look at some examples of emotions that I have found out in Twitter. As you notice, there is fear, joy, stress, greed and excitement to name a few.

Generative Art

Before deep dive into Cryptowaves and their design, I think it is important to contextualize the work.

Generative Art, known also as algorithmic art and synthetic media, is a process of algorithmically generating new ideas, forms, shapes, colors or patterns. First, you create rules that provide boundaries for the creation process. Then a computer follows those rules to produce new works on your behalf.

You can find lots of wonderful examples by famous artists in the link below.

Generative Art is not new, there has been many examples in the past and Wikipedia provides a list in different domains.

The new part is the advent of blockchain, Decentralized Applications (Dapps) and Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) that have disrupted an industry. Please refer to Medium article below for a good introduction.

BTC & ETH, 2021 & 1018

Why choosing Bitcoin and Ethereum to create Cryptowaves? Bitcoin is the driving force and the reference for the entire crypto market, while Ethereum is the backbone technology that powers thousands of decentralized applications. Bitcoin is also used to price Altcoins (Altcoin with BTC pair), and recently Ethereum is being used as well (Altcoin with ETH pair). Some are even predicting ETH to flippen BTC in the next years.

Symbolisms and references were used and are embedded in the design of Cryptowaves. The number of Cryptowaves available is 3139 that is the result of the following:

  • 2121 Cryptowaves for Bitcoin, to emphasize the fixed amount of 21 millions Bitcoins that will ever be available.
  • 1018 Cryptowaves for Ethereum, to remind that 10¹⁸ wei is 1 Ether.

Long & Short, Years & Vintage

As in the wine domain there can be years of good vintages, or rare years of superlative vintages, followed by years of normal seasons or even of bad ones, as in the Crypto domain there can be bullish periods, or extremely bullish weeks/months with euphoria in the market, or normal ones with consolidation, or even bear months with everything declining by 50–90%.

Let’s analyse some of them with Cryptowaves.

Vintage 2020–2021 edition, Long.

This type of Cryptowaves, “Vintage 2020–2021 edition, long” are characterised by a steady HTF growth, great volatility, 8x return and bullish news.

  • Return: 8x.
  • Gains: If you would have purchased 100k USD into BTC on 01/01/2020, and HODL, on 01/12/2021 you would have had about 800k.
  • Volatility: very high, as shown with the edgy violet lines.
  • Growth: S-shaped, as pictured with the yellow line. On a HTF, you would not have to concern much, as your investment was rising.
  • Events: there have been many bullish and bearish happenings.
March 2020 has seen a huge crash of all markets due to Covid. However, price followed a V-shaped recovery and actually continued to pursue All Time Highs (ATH) until the peak in April 2021.
From May until July there has been fear and desperation in the market, especially for people that wanted to sell in April, but they didn’t.
In July lots of crypto gurus where shouting for short positions towards 20k or even 10k. Only few professional traders called the bottom at 29k and another time at around 40k (e.g. I follow Crypto Birb).
On 8 June 2021 The Bitcoin Law was passed by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador (under Nayib Bukele), giving the cryptocurrency bitcoin the status of legal tender within El Salvador after 7 September 2021.
In December it is unclear if Bitcoin is following previous cycles, or if it has entered a super cycle (I enjoy following TechDev and Into The Cryptoverse for more details).

Within “Vintage 2020–2021 edition, Long” there are many different varieties of Cryptowaves. Here only few examples with black background.
