Today, we’re announcing we’ll be shutting down 60dB on Friday, November 10th, and we’ll be joining the team at Google.
When we started Tiny Garage Labs two years ago we set out with a big, audacious goal — to completely re-imagine news, sports and other talk radio for the mobile, digital age.
For consumers, we imagined a different kind of listening experience. One that featured timely, personalized stories on the topics they cared about, that kept them up to date, was available everywhere they wanted to listen, with a product experience that was optimized for the times when they listened — while their hands and eyes were busy.
For content creators, we imagined an ecosystem that allowed niche shows to find audiences and facilitated deeper connections with listeners. One that provided data insights to drive better storytelling, measurability for advertisers, and that could support a variety of monetization models beyond advertising.
Last year, we made 60dB available on iOS, Android, the web, and Alexa as well as on Android Auto and CarPlay. Behind the scenes we built a CMS and started delivering listening data back to our content partners. Our editorial team has worked with over 80 media institutions and produced hundreds of audio stories in the past year.
We’re proud of what our small team has been able to accomplish over the last two years, but there is still much more work to be done.
As we considered next steps for 60dB, we came to the conclusion that to accomplish our goals we’d be better positioned if we joined someone with scale who shared our vision for what was possible with digital audio. While our apps will be going away, stories and collections will continue to live on here.
We’re incredibly thankful to our content partners, team, investors and listeners for joining us on this journey. Our team is looking forward to continuing our work to inform, enlighten and connect listeners around the world at Google.
