Here’s how to remove a subject from it’s background for free:

When it comes to photo editing sometimes you might want to remove the subject from its background. With Adobe Express you Kan do this for FREE! The cool part is you can do this either from your desktop OR smartphone. If you want feedback on your Thumbnails or Photos, consider joining our Discord Creator community linked in the description.

If you haven’t already you can sign up for Adobe express for free via the affiliate link here: https://prf.hn/l/yOX9GBD

You can then see the quick actions here or if that isn’t there for you, you can click on this plus icon and click on Remove Background. You can choose to use a sample image as you see at the bottom here, if you do this it will show you what happens and Adobe express will tell you to upload your own file. Keep in mind the upload limit at the time of this video is 10mb. Eagle eyed viewers might notice that this feature is POWERED by photoshop.

My theory is if Adobe offers this for free in Adobe Express then their AI will get better training for their paid Creative Cloud subscription members.

Anyway enough speculation back to background removal. if you already have a photo you want to use, you can just upload it here and it will start removing the background.

But something else you can do is go next to a blank wall, or backdrop. You can then place your phone on a tripod and with a timer take photos for the thumbnail, or do your best with a selfie.

Now because you can use Adobe express on an android and ios devices that support the app, you can remove the background on your mobile device. I then in the mobile app can remove the background of the image I took. This makes it GREAT to collaborate quickly with someone else or if you need to take a reshoot for your thumbnail. Another benefit is because this sync’s with Adobe’s creative cloud I can then start an edit on my phone and continue editing it on my computer.

Now you can STILL do more with the photo. Sometimes the AI edge detection isn’t the greatest, so you can click customize here, and continue editing the photo.

Finalized Thumbnail:

This opens your image in a new untitled project, and you can edit the image by clicking on the “Edit Cutout” option here on the right hand side.

When you go to edit your image, I recommend toggling “show full image”, as you edit so you can see parts of the background that are cut out in red. From here you can either erase or restore, and select the brush size to do that. You can ALSO invert the cutout to see what part of your subject you want removed from the background. From here you can edit the image to your liking and remove it from it’s background like so. I’ve gone ahead and sped myself up doing this, but once you’re happy with it you can select the checkmark here and your image will be removed from it’s background.

If I click background here I can now add a new background.

However there is MORE that you can do with Adobe Express like create a YouTube thumbnail for FREE. Click that link to read another article: https://medium.com/@AndrewKanFilm/adobes-creative-cloud-express-tutorial-7dfe93e76af8
