During the summer of 2015, I interned at Motorola Mobility as an Employee Productivity Solutions Intern focusing on building and augment systems for employees and teams around the company. I worked with a small agile team and made significant contributions to three systems: Motorola’s employee facing directory, Motorola’s directory API for developers, and a new candidate tracking tool for Motorola’s HR team.

Creating a homegrown solution for HR candidate tracking to replace current enterprise system

A great deal of the code I pushed into production was for a project entitled MotoHire. The request for the project came from the HR staff responsible for IT recruiting in the company. While meeting with them weekly I gained a well rounded understanding of their process and empathy for the experiences they described and issues they had with Taleo, their current system. I created a wide range of features for the site including a highly customizable system for tracking both status of an application as well as the specific step a candidate was on in the process, as well as a proposal for initial steps and statuses to utilize in the system based on their described ideal process.

We used agile processes throughout all of our projects

Other features I worked on included augmenting and polishing the candidate listing page as well as various feature requests surrounding the email capability of the site for communications with interviewers and hiring managers. The system is currently still being actively developed and tested and far reaching goals include not only Motorola using the software but Lenovo (Motorola’s parent company), using the software as well.
