Craft Breweries to Try in Waterloo Region

Between bars and restaurants in the Waterloo Region, craft beer has become one of the choice beverages. With its popularity on the rise, there have been several craft beer breweries popping up in the area. Here are just a few of our favourites:

Abe Erb Brewing Company

Named after Abraham Erb, one of the founders of Waterloo, Abe Erb Brewing Company honours his legacy through hand-crafted, locally brewed beer. Try their “Das Spritzhaus Hefeweizen” wheat beer available at both locations and in select Beer Stores.

Innocente Brewing

Brewmaster Steve Innocente turns beer making into an art form. Try their award-winning “Two Night Stand” with notes of mango, passionfruit, citrus, and papaya with an underlying Swedish Berry spice.

Grand River Brewing

Located along the Grand River in historic Galt, Grand River Brewing focuses on both full-flavoured and seasonal brews. This Fall, try their “Highballer Pumpkin Ale” and “Blackberry Wheat Ale.” Also, try their signature “Hannenberg Pils” (4.5%), named after owner Bob Hannenberg.

Descendants Beer & Beverage Co.

Started by a husband-and-wife team, this European styled bierhalle includes a full bar, eatery, event space, and retail shop. It’s the perfect place to grab a pint or two and relax after a hard day of work. Try one of their three core beers: Harbinger, El Buscador, and Reynard the Fox.

Block Three Brewing Co.

In the heart of St Jacobs, Block Three Brewing Co. offers a large variety of craft beers. Some of their brewing techniques include: sour, barrel aged, and casked beers. They also offer many one-offs and limited editions that can be found at their brewery and local bars like Arabella Park. Try their limited edition “Fickle Mistress” with grapefruit and guava.

Waterloo Brewing

Established in 1984, Waterloo Brewing is Ontario’s first craft microbrewery. The brand has grown to include Landshark and Margaritaville coolers. Craft beer is still their aim with their four core beers: Dark, Amber, Pilsner, and IPA.

TWB (Together We’re Bitter Co-operative Brewing)

TWB is very much about community and collaboration with six owners working together to create delicious beers. Try a pint of their “Hydrocut Session IPA” with light fruit and hops. Part of the profits goes to maintaining the Hydrocut trails.

Barncat Artisan Ales

Named after the series of beers co-owner Skorochild home-brewed, Barncat Artisan is the second craft brewery to open in Cambridge, Ontario. Try their “Saison Blush,” brewed with lime juice/zest, and hibiscus.
