Cosmic Champs First Tournament!
It’s time to unveil our very first community tournament! A big thank you goes to the Algorand Foundation for their support. Thanks to them we’ve got a HUGE pool of prizes to share around and the winner will take home a giant bag of loot! This blog contains all the info you need about our tournament. Plus fresh intel on new characters and functionality that will be added to the game before the tournament! Read on for all the glorious details.

How will the tournament work?
The tournament is open to anyone with an Algorand wallet. A beta pass will not be required to play the game from the 17th of June until the tournament. We encourage anyone and everyone to join. We have referral rewards so tell your friends (see below)! The tournament will run over 2 days on the second weekend in July (8th and 9th) and will be split into 2 parts. There is a delay between now and the tournament date so we have enough time to add extra functionality before the event (see below for the scoop — you won’t be disappointed!). The first 24 hours (Saturday) of the tournament is the Qualification stage and the second 24 hours (Sunday) is the Champ stage. You will need to register your wallet and account beforehand to play in the tournament.
The Qualification stage is unstructured so battle as much as you like to earn points which will increase your chances of taking home a bag of loot. For every win you will earn points and for every loss you will lose points. The number of points won or lost will be calculated based on your rank and your opponent’s rank. The Qualification stage will run for 24 hours. When it ends, the top 8 on the leaderboard will move on to the Champs stage and the remaining top 50% of the leaderboard will share in about 10,000 ALGO worth of prizes (see the prizes section below).
The Champs stage is a structured tournament where the top 8 players from the Qualification stage will battle each other in the best of three matches. (see structure chart below). Everyone will battle in the quarter-finals. The four winners will progress to the semi-finals. Finally, the two winners from the semi-finals will battle each other in the final. The winner will take home the grand prize and earn props as the ultimate Champ!
We will contact the top 8 players from the Qualification stage via email to arrange the times of each match in the Champs stage. Make sure you use a genuine email address when you register for the tournament so we can contact you. If you do not respond via email, we will select your battle time. The schedule will be published on our social media accounts before the first battles begin. Players who don’t turn up at their scheduled battle in the Champs stage will automatically forfeit.
No team member will ever ask you for your wallet’s private keys! Do not share your private keys with anyone under any circumstances.
What are the prizes?
Our friends at the Algorand Foundation are supporting the tournament and have contributed a very generous amount of ALGO to the prize pool. The total prize pool is equivalent to up to 25,000 ALGO + a stack of NFTs. We’ll be giving away 12,500 worth in ALGO and 12,500 worth in COSG so half the prize amounts listed in the table will be paid in ALGO and the other half in COSG.
The top 50% of players (excluding the top 8) will share in 9,600 ALGO worth of prizes. The amount of tokens won will depend on your rank and the number of players in the league. The higher your ranking the larger the number of tokens you will win. During the tournament, we will maintain a live leaderboard that will show the cutoff for the top 50% prize pool and will show the amount of tokens for each player in the top 50%. Bear in mind, this will be live data so it can change at any moment based on player activity. The leaderboard at the end of the 24-hour Qualification stage will reflect the final rankings and prize amounts.
The top 8 in the Qualification stage will progress to the Champs stage where they will battle head to head to establish their final rank and bag of loot. The top 8 will share in 12,000 ALGO worth of prizes + NFTs. See the prizes allocated to each rank in the table below.
There are also a bunch of other prizes. All players in the tournament will receive one of 3 special commemorative NFTs based on their ranking.
- The winner of the Champ stage will receive a unique winner NFT
- The rest of the top 8 in the Champ stage will receive a finalist NFT
- Everyone else will receive a participation NFT
We’ll also give out hourly spot prizes during the Qualification stage that are each worth 100 ALGO and an NFT. Every hour during the Qualification stage, we will randomly select one wallet that has played at least one game during that hour.
We have 1000 ALGO to encourage new players to join the tournament. The first 100 new wallets that register for the tournament will receive a 10 ALGO equivalent reward (half ALGO and half COSG).
There is one last prize that isn’t listed in the prize pool table. Anyone who beats Matty or Simon during the Qualification stage will earn a 100 COSG bounty. Start practicing because there are lots and lots of prizes to be won!
Important! Make sure your wallet is opted in to COSG (ASA 1065092715) so you can receive any prizes that you win. If your wallet is not opted in at the time of distribution then you forfeit any prizes won.
Referral Program
Refer your friends and increase your chances of winning prizes! You will earn extra points for every friend that registers and plays in the tournament. They will need to indicate that you referred them by providing your wallet or Twitter handle when they register for the tournament.
What functionality are we adding?
Before the tournament kicks off we are working hard to add extra functionality to the game. The flying units from season 2 have been added to the game and are now playable! Update your app to access them. This means you can play with Pix, Shockray, and Cyclops. We are also aiming to add a stats boost for Space Rock and NFT holders. This means if you hold a valid Space Rock or NFTs of any of our Champs in your wallet then the base stats of those characters will be boosted depending on your Space Rock’s level or NFT’s rarity. Not all NFT skins are playable in the game yet. All NFTs will provide a stats boost even if the skin is not visible in the battle arena.

Fair Use Policy
Tournament registration is limited to one registration per person. This means each player is only allowed to play using a single wallet and account. Anyone detected breaching this rule will forfeit all rewards.
