Biggest Tech Predictions For 2020 — Part 2
We continue our dive into some of the biggest things set to happen in the tech world in the coming year.
As we speed towards the end of the year, it’s as important to look forward as it is to look back (don’t worry, we’ll be doing that as well). Last week, we covered three of the most significant developments set to take place in the coming year. We’re picking from where we left off, as there’s plenty more primed to take place next year.
This week, we at Innovexa Solutions make the second half of our tech predictions for 2020.
Improvements In Voice Technology
Technology that has the ability to recognize speech for the sake of our convenience has already become ubiquitous. Alexa, Siri, and Google Home are just a few amongst numerous virtual assistants that use voice recognition in order to aid us. Despite this, they all still have a long way to go in truly optimizing their ability to understand and respond to speech.
It’s hard to say all that 2020 will bring to the technology but, generally speaking, there should be continued improvements in several key areas. These include fluidity of conversation (the interactions between us and our virtual assistants being more natural), the personalization of interactions, as well as increased security.
5G Has Its Expansion
5G garnered a great deal of attention this year but never really got going. That was largely due to the fact that its roll out was limited, and it remained prohibitively expensive. That should change in 2020. Greater coverage and affordability should come sooner rather than later.
That means widely available lightening fast internet. This will have implications for smart devices, the internet of things, automation, robotics, and more.
Extended Reality Joins The Business World
Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality all fall under umbrella that is extended reality. In recent years, all three have seen significant developments. From Pokemon GO to the Oculus Rift, extended reality has gained a great deal of prominence lately. Thus far, however, it has largely fallen into the domain of entertainment. That is set to change next year.
Companies have taken note on the business potential the technologies may have for them. One such possible application of extended reality is for training, as virtual reality can provide great simulations of real life dynamics and situations.
On the other hand, the technologies can also be useful for providing another mechanism to interact with customers. With such a broad scope of possibilities, it’s hard to see businesses not embracing extended reality.
Key Takeaways:
- Takeaway 1: Despite already being everywhere, virtual assistants have a long way to go, and 2020 should see them further improve in a number key areas.
- Takeaway 2: 5G launched in 2019 but hasn’t taken off as of yet. That’s set to change next year, when it should become more affordable and widely available.
- Takeaway 3: Extended reality has already gained prominence in recent years, but in 2020 expect it to enter the business world as well.
