The Changing Landscape: Top Tech Trends 2020 — Part 2

In light of recent events, the tech landscape has changed dramatically in several ways.

Mass produced technology largely exists to better our lives in a variety of ways. To make it more convenient, to supplement our lifestyles, to enhance our ability to work, and so on. Technology addresses the needs of the public. With the advent of COVID-19, those needs have changed, and thus, so have the tech trends.

Last week we discussed three ways in which technology is being influenced by this pandemic. It highlighted that the tech trend changes taking place aren’t necessarily dramatic but are often simply a matter of greater demand (and thus attention) or enhancements of preexisting technologies. You’ll see that theme remain throughout this series.

This week, we at Innovexa Solutions discuss three more tech trends that have been brought on by this pandemic.

Online Healthcare

Continuing along the lines of what we covered last week, in these times, technology has had to become the primary driver of delivering foundational services that keep a society functioning. In our last article that was eduction. This week, we felt it necessary to also mention healthcare.

With COVID-19 making hospitals both incredibly busy as well as potentially dangerous (as hotbeds for spreading the virus), many people’s usual medical needs have been disrupted and have had to be put on hold.

In response to this, many medical institutions have decided to take their services online. This includes online information and consultations. These consultations can take place over text, audio (or simply a phone call), and video.

3D Printing

One of the areas of greatest harm done by COVID-19 has been its damage to our supply chains. With supply chains breaking down, lots of the goods that we depend upon have become more difficult to acquire and take longer to attain. As such, while companies rebuild their supply chains, they’ve had to look to other avenues to still come up with some of their goods.

For some, the long-hyped 3D printer has been one possibly solution. Certainly, 3D printing cannot solve the food shortages plaguing some regions, but it can go some way in building some necessary equipment.

Key among things that it can help create is medical masks, which are in desperate need the world over. While such masks have to go through regulatory hurdles to ensure they’re of sufficient quality, they mark a potential point of success for the 3D printer.

Virtual Events & Locations

One of things people are missing most—in addition to family and friends they can’t see—are events and places that can’t go to due social distancing concerns. Things like concerts or museums or parties. As a result, people are missing out on their hobbies and interests as well as the ability socially share in them with others.

Luckily, many of these things have gone online. From being able to visit museums via virtual tours to collectively listen to online concerts with other fans, much of the entertainment we once had to experience physically has become digital. We expect such online services to only expand further going forward.

Key Takeaways:

  • Takeaway 1: Healthcare is going online and that means the ability to consult with your doctor over text, audio, or video.
  • Takeaway 2: With supply chain issues being a key point of concern during this pandemic, 3D printing has become a potential solution for certain products and materials companies are struggling to acquire.
  • Takeaway 3: People are missing going to places, such as museums or concerts. In response to this, these spaces are going virtual, giving people the ability to visit them from the comfort of their homes.
