The Changing Landscape: Top Tech Trends 2020 — Part 3

With the tech world responding to the exigencies of this pandemic, the nature of its trends have been transformed.

What makes so many of our various technologies so special is that they add unprecedented comfort or utility to our lives. As they advance they’re further refined to give us even greater convenience. Take the phone. It allowed us to communicate instantly from our homes via our voices to anyone anywhere who also had a phone.

Then came the cell phone, which allowed the same, but with it came the added element that we were on longer limited to our homes. Then, as the cell phone became more sophisticated, it gave us an option that meant we weren’t limited to just an audio call but also had the ability to make video calls. Hence: greater utility via refinement over time.

That same growing utility in tech is now crucial, when this global pandemic is getting in the way of us living our lives like normal. With the physical restraints it’s placed upon us, technology’s role in our lives is more important than ever. Thus, the trends regarding tech have shaped themselves around providing us utility in the face of COVID-19, in some ways drastically, in others ways subtly.

This week, we at Innovexa Solutions bring you another entry in our series on the top tech trends shaped by COVID-19.

Robots

We talked about the role of robots in delivering us our goods in our first article, but it’s worth talking about robotics more generally during this time as well. The importance of robots has really been highlighted by this pandemic.

Or, more precisely, the ability to get our everyday tasks done without human interaction has be shown to be paramount. In a world where physical contact can be tantamount to danger, robots are being heavily relied upon, and there’s no reason to think our reliance will wane once our COVID troubles are over.

Digital Transformation in Supply Chains

One of the most important elements of a functioning society that we don’t think about is our supply chains. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the things that have been most greatly disrupted by COVID-19. As such, companies are having to take a look at their supply chains and see how to make them more resilient during this time and going forward.

In large part, companies are doing this by taking their supply chains digital. The new supply chain will utilize AI, automation, blockchain, big data, IoT, and much more to be a robust, agile, transparent, responsive, and well-prepared mechanism that can weather whatever comes its way.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence has been and will continue to be the most talked about thing in tech and outside of it (due to how it’s been sensationalized in popular media). So, given how ubiquitous it’s become, it’s no surprise that it, too, has been propelled by the pandemic.

After all, the earlier mentioned technologies as well as many of the ones touched upon in earlier weeks are reliant on AI to function. So much of the economy of the future, post-COVID-19, will need AI to operate optimally. For example, this pandemic has driven shopping online. That won’t stop when it’s over.

Once certain steps forward are made, it’s hard to go back. The convenience of online shopping is only going to see it continue to grow, and when it does, it’ll be AI that will help personalize online shoppers’ experiences. It’ll also be AI that’ll help companies more specifically target consumers with their digital advertising. AI will be the key unlocking our technological and digital futures.

Key Takeaways:

  • Takeaway 1: With the importance of non-physical interactions at an all time high, the utilization of robots is set to increase.
  • Takeaway 2: Supply chains have been compromised by COVID-19. As such, expect the new supply chain to undergo a digital transformation so that it can better cope with disruptions.
  • Takeaway 3: With the economy having been forever changed, AI is set to be central to its makeup going forward.
