In 2024, Coffee Tasting Could be Your New Skills
How’s tasting coffee a skill? Yes, you’ve heard me right. Coffee tasting is a skill that could be your new skill in 2024.
I don’t claim to be an expert in coffee tasting but I would know if the coffee tasted good.
One day, I found that trying to convince someone when coffee tastes something fruity, strong or even sweet (when it brews without adding any flavor) is very hard.
It is unfortunate for people. Because in fact coffee can also make their palette dance like any other good menu.
Flavor Wheel
Coffee tasting is not a subjective topic anymore. Some experts have collaborated to produce something that is called a flavor wheel. It is claimed to be the largest and most collaborative piece of research on coffee flavor ever completed.
So it isn’t my own opinion when I said that it has a lemony flavor. But I might judge it wrong. The fact that the coffee has its fruity flavor is true.
I don’t mean to lure someone to be like an athlete. Because there is a cup tasting championship.
Only for self interest so then everyone would feel lucky enough when they sip a coffee. Just like how I feel.
So, a cup (or more) of coffee will have a sensation like Sweetness, Body, Acidity and Flavor.
Evaluate your own cup
When I try to convince someone on how’s the coffee taste like, usually I’ll give this direction :
Don’t rush to sip
Smell it first then you’ll recognize the aroma and as an additional you’ll get how hot it is. If it’s too hot, you’ll burn your tongue and can’t process the next step. So don’t rush it.
Have it while it’s hot enough
When it’s hot enough but not burning, you’ll still taste a combination of aroma and flavor at the same time. So that your tongue will begin to recognize the taste from the first sip.
But, if it’s already at room temperature, you’ll only get the flavor but not the aroma.
The aroma is only revealed while there is enough pressure (means still a little hot). Even though it can still be recognized by the insight of the mouth, it is not as good.
Evaluate the final sip
As it is explained above, the taste of the sip when it is still a little hot would be different than after it is already at room temperature or the final sip. However there is still a unique flavor at the final sip. So, evaluate it until the last sip.
Master the coffee flavor
You won’t get it right the first time. That’s why I called it a skill. It can get more interesting the more we try to master it.
So enjoy it, practice it and tell it to the experienced so that you can get it right.
Finally, I post something after awhile! Take a look at my other post on Kopi_Coffee. Thank you for your support!
