Aleo investors
Hi everyone! I did a review of Aleo and a post about the ambassador program, but now we will talk about the funds that invested their green papers in the project.
Let’s start with the fact that a total of $ 228 million was invested in it.
$28M in Series 1 led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Placeholder VC, Galaxy Digital, Variant Capital and Coinbase Ventures.
Other key investors worth noting include Polychain Capital, Slow Ventures, Dekrypt Capital, Scalar Capital, a_capital, zkValidator, Balaji Srinivasan, and Joseph Lubin’s new venture fund, Ethereal Ventures.
$200M in Series 2, led by Kora Management LP and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and with participation from Tiger Global, Sea Capital, Samsung Next, Slow Ventures, and Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), resulting in a valuation of 1.45 billion dollars.
Following the company’s $28 million Series A led by a16z in April 2021, Aleo’s Series B represents the largest zero-knowledge fundraising round in the history of the industry.
Now let’s take a look at Series A funds individually.
- Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is a venture fund founded by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.
The venture fund was founded in June 2009 with an initial capital of $300 million. In September 2009, the company invested $50 million in Skype for a 2% stake. The fund also owns shares in Zynga, Digg, Foursquare and other internet companies. In early November 2010, the company announced that it had raised another $650 million for a second venture fund. In February 2011, Andreessen Horowitz invested $80 million in Twitter, becoming the first venture capital fund to hold shares in all four of the most valuable social media companies: Facebook, Groupon, Twitter, and Zynga.
a16z manages $19.2 billion in assets across multiple funds. Includes a $1.4 billion biofund, a $3.1 billion crypto fund, and a cultural leadership fund.
2. Coinbase Ventures is the investment arm of Coinbase that aims to invest in early stage cryptocurrency and blockchain startups.
According to The Block, the first quarter of 2022 saw a record $12.5 billion in venture capital funding, a figure that has increased for seven consecutive quarters. Coinbase Ventures was also busy, closing 71 new deals in the first quarter, mostly aimed at early-stage investments.
