What motivated OKEx Blockdream Ventures to invest in and support MonkeyBall?
First, GameFi is fueling the next expansion of crypto by further empowering players, creators, and community fans. A game-changer like Monkeyball facilitates a player-owned economy, where gamers create, play, and compete freely — earning and being rewarded for their devoted engagement.
Secondly, MonkeyBall sits at the intersection of FIFA Street and Final Fantasy which has the potential to attract tons more players to play this game and into crypto. The game is being developed on the Unity game engine, allowing it to be eventually deployed on both Desktop and Mobile which provides convenience to players. Moreover, the tokenomics of Monkeyball stands out from plenty of play-to-earn games in the market which pleasantly surprised us as it's built by and for its players.
Last but not least, from top to bottom, the whole team at MonkeyBall are professionals with great passion and experience in game design, development, blockchain, and long-term project operations.
What is your prediction for the future of Play-to-Earn?
Dora, the founder of OKEx Blockdream Ventures, believes that GameFi, or GameFinance, can be understood simply as NFT + Decentralized Finance, or DeFi, when in fact it’s more focused on the DeFi aspects. On one hand, GameFi integrates DeFi into games, which enables gamification of DeFi. This makes the prospect of crypto gaming a lot more interesting in order to contribute to the overall development of the gaming ecosystem. Compared to the traditional game of “Deposit to Play”, GameFi is “Play to Earn”, the former is to spend money and then play the game, whereas the second is to play the game and earn money simultaneously, which is a revolutionary difference. GameFi also empowers NFT with a more practical value through gamification settings, as NFT props are no longer just commodities for sale on the NFT trading platform, but can be traded directly in the game’s marketplace, and the entire trading process is simpler than in traditional games. This leads us to see tremendous value in the play-to-earn space and we see MonkeyBall as a pioneer and future institution of esports in the metaverse.
