“Mozilla is well known for offering privacy-focused, quality software..over 10 million people use the service in 237 countries”

Mozilla Monitor’s main goals are to:

“help users see whether their data has become ensnared in a data breach and to then fix any exposures that occur.”

It’s a Mindset, a New Way of Life 🔒

Article Target Audience:

  • Stalking/domestic violence victims on a limited budget
  • Everyday people who want to be more aware and minimize publicly available information about them

Once you escape, your challenge will be to remain unfound.

Living a normal life will be hard enough emotionally from the abuse and fear.

Thinking about every time you put your name down online or in person, adds to your stress.

State of Constant Alert

The more you can automate your privacy and security, though the removal of information about you online, the better.

General Privacy Education Tip:

I pay attention and sign up to newsletters to companies that promote privacy, like: Mozilla, Albine, Ghostery and others (such as VPN’s).

For example I recently learned Mozilla (creator of the Firefox browser) has become more of a privacy suite and eco-system.

— They even have their own VPN now.

A Partial Privacy Solution

Mozilla Firefox, a browser already known for its privacy, has a new paid feature, that’s built into the browser called,Monitor Plus”.

It has a couple free services too,
which will let you know if your email has been hacked and where and what information is available about you online.

Their paid service offers:

  • “automatic data removal and continuous monitoring of your exposed personal information.”

— Is Mozillas Monitor Plus the Best Service out there?

NO.

PC Mag gives it a 3.5/ stars (which they rate as “Good”)

Then Why Would Go With Mozilla’s Over the Other Services?

-Its Cost and the “Better than Nothing Principle”

It is LESS EXPENSIVE than most other services,
at $8.99 per month ($108 yearly).

  • They Also offer a number of Free Scans (click to see),
that will give you some insight to where your currently at, and what is out there about you along the journey.

The “Better than Nothing Principle”

(If you’re short on money)

And it is certainly is much better than nothing,
if the others are out of your price range by offering a:

  • “Monthly scan of 190* sites that sell personal info
  • Instant data breach alerts & monthly exposure reports
  • Automated removal of your personal info from sites selling it”

*Privacy Bee covers 440+ data brokers

Still:
It is VERY IMPORTANT to Do SOMETHING,
to reduce data brokers collection of your data and information,
when initially escaping
and
for the Long Term to remain unfound.

These are the sites that will help your abuser-stalker find you.

Mozilla will off You SOME Peace of Mind,
and make it a Bit more difficult for your abuser.

What are better options?

Privacy Bee (Yearly: $197 a year. Rated: 4.5/5 stars)

Incogni (Monthly-$12.99. Yearly-$7.99 per month and $47.88, Rated: 4/4 Stars)

Why?

“They also cover more data brokers (Kanary by a little and Privacy Bee by a lot) and offer more features.”

  • PC Mag, Neil Rubenking

Data brokers collect and share your information online..and there’s ALOT of them!

Why this is SO important for DV and stalking victims:

All this data (information about you, your habits, interests garnered from many sources), may fall into the hands of a data broker and later, your stalker and abuser, thus revealing your location.

How they May Find you

There are a variety of tools they will use to find you, some of which are very free and easy.

Tools that remove your data from the brokers that will collect it, minimizes the data you or they, constantly send to companies, that sell it to other companies and others.

These tools reduce, the likelihood your address, phone number and more, appears in easy to find places your abuser will likely look.

(At the end of the article, I’ll list another article that will cover more about data brokers and how they work.

Within that article, there are more that cover other tools, apps and extensions, that also limit the information you share while surfing the web).

How Your Apps and Internet Searching Helps Your Abuser Find You

App Risk:
Apps you likely have on your phone…which is why you should not use your debit card to pay for these apps, nor enter an email with your first and last name when signing up for them or anything else online or in person).

Combat the Abuser with Less Thinking
Mozilla Monitor Plus, is one way to help you combat this data sharing automatically,
so you don’t have to think as much or worry “as much”.

It does some of the work for you.

Why Not “as Much” vs No More Worry?

Like with any service your using to keep you Safe,
don’t ONLY rely on the service.

Rely on Your Mindset and OPSEC Habbits

Think of these services as Partial Filters.

The less data you require them to filter out,
the better they can work and less area online they have to cover.

Each privacy service may work a little differently and some cover more data brokers than others.

“Monitor Plus will let you know once your personal information has been removed from more than 190+ data broker sites, twice the number of other competitors.”

I'm not sure who these competitors are, but it will certainly help.

Some Risks that You Still Have

It is still possible for you to be found,
especially if you get lazy and are using one that covers less of the internet for you.

Or, if you post your name on social media.

No tool, app or service can protect you from poor OPSEC habbits.

Keep Up the Habits to Keep Up the Cleaning

The cleaner your oil is,
the less the filter has to clean and better it will work.

Good OPSEC Habits Equals Better Filter Results

These tools then, are Great supplements and augment your safety and security significantly.
