As a Writer, You will Waste a Lots of Time on This Specific Thing

Have you ever watched 100’s of YouTube videos on a topic, but never did anything on that topic.

Or you’ve been reading article after article on blogging, but you haven’t started a blog yet.

Why?

“Oh… I’m still in the RESEARCH phase.”

Many of us writers will stay in this ‘RESEARCH’ phase until give up on that dream.

2 Simple Strategies to Stop Over-Researching:

Commit to One Action a day:

We get stuck in an endless loop of:

  • That’s a cool idea
  • Let me research that idea
  • Research
  • Research
  • This is too hard

You never get anything done doing this.

Set a 30-day plan to do one simple daily action to bring you towards a goal.

Example:

I’m writing a Medium article a day until I hit 1,000 followers. So, hit that follow button ;)

Maybe your daily action switches around… for example YouTube:

  • One day is Scripting
  • One day is Filming
  • One day is Editing
  • Repeat

Committing to one simple action a day will get you more progress towards your goals than being in the ‘Research’ phase for a month.

You can do more in a day.

This is your minimum viable action… Every day you do this.

Keep in mind:

Every algorithm favors consistency.

Make it a Game:

Everyone says the same old stuff…

Get a accountability partner!

This is a great strategy, but I like to look at it from a different angle.

Shoot someone a DM… Ask them if they want to accept a challenge.

Choose someone who you want to compete with, a friendly rival. What do I compete over?

Good question:

  • First to get to 1,000 followers
  • First to get the job
  • First to get 100$

You get the idea. Find someone who is striving towards similar goals to you and inquire with them if they want to compete to a common goal.

This strategy will work as smooth as butter with those of us who are competitive in nature.
