As an example, I will take Subsquid. I am not Subsquid ambassador, but this program differs from others I’ve applied to, so I have decided to tell you more details, so you could know what to expect in this kind of programs too. Have a nice, useful time reading and don’t forget to support me with your applause, follow and comment.

Introduction
To start with, I want to mention that being an ambassador isn’t a job for me. It is, in the majority of cases, a volunteer activity, a hobby. Why? I will tell you below in the main part.
Anyway, for me, it is the great experience and the chance to be involved in technology future creation. Sometimes a good experience, sometimes disappointing, but always precious. I am fond of what I am a part of and what I do, and this is the main reason why I do not give up.
If you are looking for easy money — it does not wok that way. In other cases, you can get what you are looking for, if you know where to look. Hope to help you with it today.
Who is ambassador?
To answer this question, I googled it. In fact, I wanted to get different points of view. For example, in this article there are 12 definitions of “ambassador”, but the one is the most suitable:
“An unofficial representative or messenger.” (Source)
Here are other variants from different sources:
“The word is also used informally for people who are known, without national appointment, to represent certain professions, activities and fields of endeavor such as sales.” (Source)
“an authorized messenger or representative” (Source)
Yes, this is all! It wasn’t well defined (or I was looking banly?). So, here is what I think about the therm.
Ambassador of the project — is an authorized unofficial representative of the project that helps the official team to make the project better and tell the world about it.
Being an ambassador is like being a part of the team connected with same interests and passions and work together to make the project better. Ambassadors not only tell the world about the project, but can be a part of testing or, even, developing teams.
Ambassador program
Ambassador program is a campaign that is concentrated on the search of talented enthusiasts and ambassador teams management taking into account specific goals in project marketing, content creation, testing etc.
“An ambassador program is a standardized process companies create to find, recruit, manage, pay, and track brand ambassadors.” (Source)
Ambassador programs can be short and long-lasting, divided into seasons (periods with strict duration with possible breaks in between) or continuous. It differs between programs because of different goals and project specifics. Moreover, sometimes projects change their program’s characteristics when it can’t get to the goal.
The number of participants in the program also varies a lot. Sometimes it’s only a few dozens of people, in others — dozens of thousands and more. If you are choosing between where to work as an ambassador — choose the small team. Why? Because you can have a closer communication with the project team, cozier experience of working together and more interesting rewards too.
Standard activities
To achieve the goal, the specific list of activities for ambassadors to do is defined. Sometimes it is quite strict and takes into account the exact topic or set of attributes that should be used when fulfilling the task. In other programs, ambassadors are free to do what and how they want in frames of the task.
Here, I prepared a list of tasks that are the most common today:
Social marketing
The main goal of this category of tasks is to make more and more people to know about the project. The tasks can include:
>support of official social media accounts of the projects with shares, follow, likes, comments, etc;
>creating posts in your own social media pages about the project.
Content creation
The purpose of the category is to make more informative or even technical content about the project. It includes articles, blog posts, infographics, twitter threads, digital arts, video, memes etc.
Community management
When you take part in this — you should help local or global communities grow, help community members, translate materials into local languages (it can be a different category too), gather people at events, educate about the project, etc.
System testing and development.
It is as it is and includes the following tasks:
>Manual testing of project software
>Mining
>Holding Noda alive
>Take part directly in project development
etc.
There can be others too. Everything depends from the program goals.
Ambassador benefits
The more complex is the task and the better work you do — the better reward you can expect. The way it influences the project goal means too. As in any job, right? But the reward is not always clear.
Personally, I participated in more ambassador programs with no clear rewards, than in ones that tell you what you get.
There are two direct ways to earn with ambassador work:
- If ambassadors are paid with dollars (only top ambassadors can expect this kind of reward);
- If ambassadors are paid with project tokens or/and NFTs;
- If ambassadors are whitelisted to token sale.
I don’t think the first one should be explained. The only thing I want to emphasize is that don’t expect on that. I can assume, you are reading this article because you are new to ambassador programs, so you are really far from having salary in USA dollars. Anyway, the next two are not that far.
Some projects pay ambassadors with their tokens. Tokens are crypto assets build on blockchain. To make it easy to understand — it is kind of digital money, cryptocurrency. Why it differs from the USA dollar? The dollar has clear value. It does not change much. The token value is connected directly with project value and can differ much. It can be both huge or tiny. I have already explained, how you can assume the future token value: Can we predict the price of new tokens?
Nevertheless, it can be changed into dollars or other “real” money. As for the NFT, I want to be simple and describe it as a token too, but for just other purposes, for example, digital arts.
And token sale is also a way to earn. As token sale, I mean an event where tokens are sold before they are free to buy on the market. Most often, the price goes higher after the token is live. But sometimes it is never live or gets lower, you should remember that before buying any tokens.
THIS INFORMATION IS MADE ONLY WITH EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, IT IS NOT CALL TO ECTION.
As other benefits are involved, it takes into account a lot of educational opportunities, communication with the project team, insider information, an ability to take part in various crypto events, etc.
How to get involved
Now we are here, taking about “how to become an ambassador”. There are few steps:
- Find an ambassador program;
- Apply — fill in the form;
- Wait.
Yes, the third one can last indefinitely. It is normal. You shouldn’t get any reply. You won’t get any reply for the majority of programs — that is normal, just apply for another one.
Now let’s discuss where you can find ambassador programs. Here are a few most common ways (there are a lot more):
- Get information in specific social media groups, for example in Telegram;
- From friends, if you have some;
- Be aware of latest crypto news on crypto startups and fundraising.
The last one is not easy, but very important, as in here the knowledge is a power. It is not hard to become an ambassador of any project, it is hard to find the project that worth it. Actually, the hardest thing is to start from the right point. Then you should find friends and communities with same interests, where everyone shares information and discuss it.
The next step is to apply. Some preparation should be made in order to be chosen to the program. You should have your telegram, twitter, discord accounts ready to use. Think about your strong sides and write them down, as you would tell any employer. Be short and clear. Be self-confident — that is very important! Moreover, you should prepare a few sentences on what you want to get from/ give to the program. In addition to that, make a list of links with the proof of your experience, if you have some.
And, as I’ve already mentioned — wait.
Subsquid ambassador program
I have already wrote about one ambassador program. Check it out here, to understand this subject more: Who are the ambassadors.
Subsquid is one of the project I applied recently. Why I am talking about it? It has added one more step to the previous ones: proof yourself.
To become an ambassador, you should work hard, before that. There are a few ways to do it:
- Take part in community discussions;
- Gleam contest;
- Create content and post it in the appropriate discord server tabs.
As you can assume, right now I am doing the third one. I will submit this article as a content for the project. But not only articles are needed, but everything else also counts well: memes, arts, videos, infographics, informative tweets, new ideas, blog posts, and lots and lots more. You create, post, share it in discord and hope to get the role.
Another important thing is community discussions. Ones who is active will be more likely to get the role. Every message in discord channel counts automatically and there also is a leaderboard for that one. Personally, this can look like the easiest, but that is the hardest for me. I am not that talkative.
The last one is Gleam competition, but I want to discuss it more in the next subtopic.
In fact, SubSquid is not the first project with this complex way to get into the project. But it already takes a lot of effort now. This makes me think that the results of the ambassador program for the participants will be also valuable.
If you are only trying to become an ambassador, it is also a great practice. I will leave you all the links to get involved.
To get more details on this program, click here and here.
Gleam competition
Gleam is an easy to use and set up platform for various competitions. The most important about it is an automated verification of actions.
SubSquid is using the platform to conduct competitions between the community. As a result, top community participants can get their spot in ambassador program or win NFTs.
Right now, you can take part in Social Grow Competition. Among the actions that you can fulfil are:
- Tweets and retweets,
- Following
- Comments
- Friends invitations
- Memes
- Posts
The list of actions expands daily, so it is better to stay turned till the end of competition.
SubSquid uses Gleam to find the most devoted community members, but sometimes it is a way to get whitelisted for some token sale too.
Conclusions
To conclude, as always, I will show up a few of my own thoughts.
Being an ambassador is a great way to educate yourself and find friends and useful acquaintances. This is a great and easy start in a blockchain industry. The chance of mistakes that can cost you time and money gets lower if you know people that know people… If you know what I mean? Yes, collective mind is useful in the field.
Being an ambassador worth a lot of effort. In case, you want to earn in this way, you should understand that you can get nothing as a reward too, no matter how hard you try, so be sure to choose trustworthy projects.
One of them is SubSquid. The only thing is that you should do a lot of work, before being noticed. Are you ready for this? If yes, start from Gleam.
Nevertheless, to become a part of an ambassador program, some preparations should be done and a lot of patience is needed.
